Valery,
As Mark requested earlier....do you have any photos of your set-up and details of your "ARIES" arrangement??

Before I will be ready to offer my kits for purchase I will not show any photos of the setup. The delay was due to improvement of the safety of the kits.
I was promised that the coatings will be finally made this month.

Valery.

It's not this Greg. I got the email from Jen too and Googled the Quark. Then found this thread.

Nice to see even more innovation for backyard sun types though!

Enjoy the sun,

GP

day one, after ordering and transfering the $$$'s. I have not yet received an answer to the question when they will be delivered

Walter, I talked to Sean at Daystar today. They will not start shipping until the day of NEAF. That wold be the 12th. The first batch of product is currently in final test before shipping.

Hi Joe

thanks for the information. Having ordered and paid, I would have expected to get that information straight from Daystar

Some interesting stuff on the daystar facebook page about this product, including this sketch of how it works...

Hi,

Interesting but I think there is one mayor limitation for the QUARK and that is I guess that You will not be able to adapt a camera directly wihtout another set of lenses and get in focus.

One interesting think is this
Full disk viewing possible on refractors up to ~450mm focal length refractors
but as far as I understand only with an Eyepiece and not a camera as the focal plane is far to inside the QUARK.

I worked on a telecentric lens system last year in order to be able to get a focal plane outside of the lens in order to operate a camera. It worked but have not been able to insert into my lens setup an Etalon system.

The optical design looked like this http://astroforo.net/astro/RS-TeRe/Sky9 ... 50-243.png and produces an f99 collimated Sun ray.

THe first PVC Prototype like this http://astroforo.net/astro/RS-TeRe/RS-TeRe-02.jpg and in the center I wanted to place the etalon and of course use an ERF at the fron of the telescope.

Here a comparison between native focal length http://astroforo.net/astro/RS-TeRe/RS-S ... Pro742.jpg

and using my optical design on the telescope http://astroforo.net/astro/RS-TeRe/RS-TeRe-IRPro742.jpg

I was in touch with Daystar but suddenly they just stopped answering my questions. I was even preapred to buy a normal daystar Filter but as Daystar stopped the communication I put aside my project. Now I have a 40mm Cromoado etalon which I have not been able to disassemble inorder to make tests with that. I have not been able to separate the adjusting ring from the golden ring where the etalon is inside. Not even heating it up. I think I will have to use a Dremel and file it away.

This QUARK could be the motivation to continue with my project ¿?

Walter, I saw an answer to your question on the Daystar Facebook page. Stephen posted this pic from NEAF on his FB page. The unit looks very impressive. I too have an order in.

Good news! The snow can't lasts too long now.

Walter, it is VERY IMPORTANT to test your Quark with different F/D telescopes and estimate the band wide wit each F/D of the telescope.

The narrowest band wide will be with slowest F/D telescope.

Looking for your first, second and third light !

Walter I do look foward to your test review.Especially in double stack and imaging applications .I already do a similar thing with the section from the Daystar Solaredi but its hard to get on band as it has no heater. I think the most important thing here is that it opens up another avenue for those on the Darkside to see the light.
cheers Derek

Walter, the suspense is killing me. Lets hope that the weather Gods are good for you.

I agree with Valery to test your Quarks with different focal ratio scopes.

This rule does not work in my area! Always, when I buy or make new astro gear, the weather is just as good as according a season.

BTW. What the elevation above sea level do you living at?

Valery it's possible :)

I shall tempt a double stack Quark with PST mod ;) This will work well, maybe....

JP
With such double stack you will have some solid and some possible problems. They are:

1. Much dimmer image, especially at the edge of the Sun disk. From 0.003 - 0.01 sec exposures you can move to about 0.03 sec or 0.04sec!
Significantly smaller number of good frames - 0.03 is not the best to freeze the atmosphere in solar imaging.
2. Prominences will be much dimmer, really difficult to capture except the most brightest ones.
3. Reflections (ghost) between two etalons.
4. 2x smaller useful field of view where you are "in band" with 0.5A.
5. You will need to adjust the etalons very frequently when you will change the objects on the sun disk.

Positive:

1. MUCH more contrasty images of the sun chromosphere. More contrasty than with 0.5A single etalon, even better than 0.4A single etalon!
2. More detailed surface between active regions and especially on the limb.

Good luck! And, of course, we waiting your detailed reports with many photos!

It'is sure that it will be hard to obtain good results whit this set-up and even can be that will work not at all ;) , but it is necessary to try :)
