Mod TS 152/900 Individual
I make this review because it might be useful to someone on Changing PST.
It all started during one starparty to Bazena in 2013 when I saw in a PST normal and with the clouds, and among other things for a change. After some sacrifices here finally get the PST also in my house
After a few months I began to think in fact I put the flea in the ear of the fact that there was the change until it was time for me unknown.
I began to take a telescope 120/1000 because I was interested in both the white light that H-alpha and I needed a report F10 diaframmandolo would 100/1000 for H-alpha and 120 for white light, and then found an offer that does not could pass up I rushed in with 150/1200 on HEQ5 project and then I returned. Reading on various forums ran into Solarchat from which I took a thousand ideas and the idea or almost final.
After yet another thought and expense required shift focuser also decided to change the last Ziel 150/1200 and bought the Individual 152/900 precisely F6.
Let's start with removing PST
You have to start with degreasing hand and pst if no slides and try to remove the parts that come off easily and in the end I made a sort of vise to lock the rotation dell'etalon but without blocking the tube repeat the tube does not go blocked for not scratch it.
After removing all you get to the heart precisely the etalon
In my case, wanting to use any opening or 152 mm because the PST is natively F10 you have to replace the front lens that has a concave floor diaphragmed from 25-200 to 20-200 block from here F10, now for my case F6 , from the calculation I need a 25-120 that diaphragmed my knowledge 20-120 F6
A tool of luck for the release of the clamp screw lens
I had to build a thickness with cardboard because the lens is slightly lower
Now the etalon is affixed to my focal lacks proof provisional because it is not over.
Now is my phase 2, in theory jargon it says: Phase 1 off the etalon and mount it in the telescope classic 100 F10 Phase 2 would remove the third box they know within the lens replacement / corrective lenses of ' etalon, but let us.
In the test I noticed a lot and I mean a lot of scattered light, the pst dismounted and saw that within the prism was worked on as many as four faces and pointing a green laser inside the box lit up the face of the scattered light and took off to I mean that too.
The calculation of the diagonal of about 1.25 8 CM more an extension of about 12 would give me what I need 200 MM is the result with some correction made after
The BF 5 MM original practically an invisible little hole
Here it is mounted to the test
Ok evidence, all right, but the field is still too small, na misery of BF5, now stand on the French market at a bargain price BF10 so to speak. Just get home I take the caliber and dismount and start the measurement, under 9.5 above 10.00 immediately take the picture BF10 inside and I measure 12MM Yay, now I take the drill and the harbor nearly 11MM, and I mount.
ITF back to the filter for both the BF5 and BF10 is 15 mm
Please try again with a further modification of the instrument tube focusing of (replaced with focuser SC more fitting 50mm step 1) because during the upgrade, too.
Here a picture of the revision of HEQ5 after mounting: new bearings, motors Go-To, greasing, and arriving at the new Tripod.

What can you say about sweet spot?
Is it small or acceptable in visual? What percent of Sun is cover by it?
I used etalon from Lunt 50PT to make my mod on TS 102/1100 and the sweet spot is relatively small - only 20-25% of Sun

if you mean the part of the sun in h-alpha visible will be about a 15/20 but are still in the experimentation with light beam collimated by about f32, are now about 1.8 degrees and I have to go back at least 1 degree improving lose part of the cone but I do not care because I only have a BF10.

I mean that in wider field of view only some part of the Sun is "in band". So for example when I have full Sun in field of view only 20-25% of it is with details (filament, prots, etc...). The rest is without any detail - only red ball.
So I'm curious, if you have the same with your PST mod or not...

yes, but then again this is still a beginning then you will see how to optimize. is now under study a system of about f30 / 32 then you will see.

Hello to all. I write after many trials and to describe recent work done to 152/900 and now after having tried for over a year.
Hosostituito tuuto hindquarters combining two etalons pst without the collimator lenses

and I assembled them into a telecentric studied for my focal then a telecentric 5x

mounted before the telecentric there is a bf 15 coronado.
To optimize the weights and bilenciamento boss that causes telecentric I modified the focuser by building an extension machined from solid and 25 cm long 9mm thick, placing everything inside with calculations done previously.

I have an erf at full aperture front mounted 160 of Baader.

Herve,
Using a pair of PST etalons as a double stack - this can be achieved in two ways.
1. Use the stock etalons with the front and rear lens still in place, a custom machined M50 x 1 mm threaded adaptor holds the two etalons together (I have drawings available if needed) This arrangement I found to be very difficult to tune and I gave up after a while.
2. Remove the rear lens element from the front etalon and the front lens element from the rear etalon - use the same spacer to hold them together. This has been trialled by a couple of members and seems to be more successful.
Hope this helps.

Then between the two etalon I have a fixed fitting ... well I have now made a threaded fitting with a ring that can block the etalon in a different position. In this way I can take off the reflexes that are formed, not that they give too much annoyance but now the sky beyond the solar edge is beautiful black, so the protrusions stand out better.

I removed all the lenses from the etalon. You need the telecentric x this system I designed.

Thanks, but I don't understand it completely. Normally you would say that you need to put the first etalon minus 20 cm of the focal point of a F10 scope.
But if you change the front lense of the etalon with another concave lens you can get away with something else.

Then I repeat I do not use any lens. The original lenses have been removed and 4. in their place use a 5x telecentric made specifically for my focus.

You could change the lens but still the result would not be good because the beam would not reach the correct inclination of the original collimated beam.

That is cool! I allways thought it was necessary, but apparently it is not.

The majic 200mm was based on the standard front barlow lens giving a parallel collimated beam to the etalon, and the rear lens re-imaging to the focus.
If both lenses are removed, then you have a degree of freedom....for optimum performance the etalon needs to be in a beam >f25, close to f30 is good.
This can be achieved with a telecentric barlow ie the x4 with an f7.5 scope and then select the re-focusing lens to suit your requirements....

Aha. So I am mixing things up... So instead of a collimated beam through the etalon you aim at f25 - f30. But then you have to remove both lenses. Like that?

Yeah, a perfectly parallel and collimated would be ideal, but around f30 works well. The rear lens could be retained to bring the final focus 200mm behind the etalon, or replaced with one to suit your system.

My is before the telecentric so I collect the beam before, when it is smaller and i just need a BF15

The ERF is generally mounted in front of the etalon.
The blocking filter is mounted behind the etalon. I've never seen an application were the blocking filter was mounted before the etalon......

IF the blocking filter is larger than the etalon, then I see it could be mounted in front of the etalon.
All the blocking filters I have experience with have always been smaller than the etalon.

Yeah the Quarks have their BF in front ... Totally Weird imho !! but obviously works well and reflects most of the IR.
Is this not the PST Mod Holy Grail ... the DS Mod ... Respect if ever it was due.

My bf is smaller than the etalon BF = 15mm, etalon 20mm. The doublestuck as I set up with telecentrica works fine.
