Can i use my EDGEHD800 for Ha?
Just curious. Is there a way to fit a etalon and blockfilter to my Celestron EdgeHD800 SCT?
I use a Lunt LS50 for full disks but sometimes i want to get a closeup of a prom. Would be cool if i could use my bigger scope for that...

Mark uses a special Edge HD: https://airylab.com/hat-solar-telescopes/

The answer is a big yes:-)
Here is an exemple of image taken in Ha with my C8 Edge-HD:

We can make for you a 214mm DERF filter which will allow you to use your C8 telescope as a regular telescope for night observing. Just put it in the front of the telescope and observe the Sun. Remove it and then observe what ever you like. And this will be the most cost effective solution.

Hi
Does the Cassegrain affect the acceptance angle? And how do you calculate the effect? Primary F2 say and secondary magnification F5 to give net F10.
Do you use a standard telecentric barlow to reach F30 or a special one to correct the acceptance angle reduction?
Can you use a PST directly on the focusser? Solving the 200mm backfocus issue by moving the secondary in say.
Or again would you need to correct the accepance angle reduction?
Andrew.

The secondary mirror has no effect at all. It is compatible with F/10 collimating lens (= PST) or mica-spaced etalons.
For mica-spaced étalon, you need a F/30 telecentric. AiryLab telecentric are designed for SC.

Re PST mod with an Edge SCT....I'm not sure the built in corrector and the available back focus would allow you to achieve the necessary -200mm . The mod would there entail more work and cost besides the upfront ERF!

Re: Can i use my EDGEHD800 for Ha?
Hi
Mark posted a tip for not cutting a refractor to reach focus, of moving the PST collimator lens, or equivalent for telescope F No, from the PST up the focuser tube.
I decided to try a Vixen VMC110L to go with a 110mm Lunt EFR and a PST for a mod. Moving the 20mm Collimator lens into the front of the existing focus T2 base enabled me to reach focus. I did that straight away before any testing.
I eventually moved it further up via a sacrificed Barlow to just behind the primary baffle tube to get F10, stopping the F9.4 telescope down a bit. Now I can use a spare 1.25" barrel to add a futher aperture stop behind the 5mm blocking filter which removes off-axis light coming out of the PST for my 25mm Clave'. Currently two spare Clave' barrels without filter threads, after Clave' via Beacon Hill kindly provided free replacements with filter threads, black taped together. An in development bodge.
Andrew.
