RAW stacked image in CaK with 280mm SCT

Post by Valery »

Hi all,

If any of you are interested in trying your processing skill.

This is a RAW stacked image in CaK taken May 31 2018 with my C11 equipped with ARIES 296mm DERF.

Filter - PST CaK #1 + original PST BF filter #2 + Edmund 10nm 393nm

Camera Basler 1920-155

800 frames stacked

Have fun.

Valery,
Thanks for posting raw image. I love processing other folks images trying to reproduce their results using my
usual methods.
In this case it was more interesting as I haven't processed any CaK images before. I had quite a lot of trouble deciding what was
noise and what was artefact from my heavy touch tools. So here is a first pass.
Best wishes,
David

Thanks Valery, I will have a go at this at home. Is this using a Saffix as well?

No SAFIX, Alexandra! With ARIES filter you will have such a sharpness from your 11" SCT. Just hunt for the seeing! SSM will greatly help in this.

BTW. Have you received the DERF yet?

BTW A year or so back such an offer of a RAW image for post processing will be quite demanding. But not now. Does the solar minimum is so damaging?

May be you, folks, need less boring image(s) for postprocessing?

Valery, yes the DERF is at the hubby's work in the safe (he told me today). When we get it home tonight it will be the big reveal :)
Would the Lunt CaK module work?

1. Nice to know that the DERF came intact to you! It got a good home! I hope that Stu will help you with the cell.

2. Yes, the Lunt CaK diagonal or straight will work just fine. Tell me what is the camera you plan to use with this
telescope. I need to know the pixel size.

Hello Valery
I have a Grasshopper 3 GS3-U3-28S5M-C and a Lunt CaK diagonal, is there any hope?

Love the deep contrast in your processing, Valery.
My attempt to come close is below.
Are you using some kind of line or edge enhancement filter?

Cheers.

I would say that this camera is not fast enough for imaging with such a large aperture telescope.

In my opinion there are two cameras which can be used with good chances for a success.
ZWO ASI190MM and Basler 1920-155. They are fast enough.

I now extensively test these both cameras side by side. For CaK I prefer 290MM. For Ha I need more
tests to be done.

150fps or faster is our choice.

ASI290MM is much cheaper and should be the best choice.

Hi Mark,

All my efforts to formalize the work flow to a single stable sequence have failed. All depends of how good the initial recorded movie is, how noised it. All I can say is that I do use two instruments: Astra Image Pro 3.0 and Photoshop CS6. In AI I mostly use Maximum Entropy and LR deconvolutions. And a lot of intuitive steps - depends how the processing is going. Next season I will finally go with SSM - in hope to get better quality of recorded movies.
