November 9th

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day everyone...

I was fortunate to have a few clear hours this morning...it cleared after breakfast and was clouded over shortly after the noon hour but I managed to get more imaging in during that break than the past few months combined :o

The first views through the LS80T showed little activity, with a few very small proms and bright spot on the western limb. I added the LS75FHa etalon in a DS arrangement and the view improved a bit with some small filaments appearing and the bright spot became more evident.

The image below is a composite of separate disk and limb exposures through the LS80T/LS75FHa/B1200Ha solar scope. The limb is inverted to highlight the proms:

I set up the Lunt WL solar wedge/Baader Continuum filter and and the Lunt Wedge/B1800CaK/Baader K-line filter sets to image in WL and CaK through the Stellarvue 110. The ZWO174MM camera was usedbut it clipped a bit of the poles off:

There were a few small 'bright' spots that were imaged in CaK and Ha, but none had much structure. There was a small region that had recently rotated into view and the bright spot on the western limb where AR2729 was rotating off the limb. The remaining images are through the CR150/DSII/B1800Ha modded scope with a 3x focal extender ahead of the camera. First is the area on the eastern limb:

The bright spot and small proms on the western limb reminded me of how the loop prom appeared in its early stages back in September 2017. It did not change much while I was imaging, but maybe others have seen more activity:

The final image shows the main prominence on the NW limb...seeing was poor and attempts to grab the smaller ones did nto work out:
3x_CR150_DSII_104413-ASI.jpg
3x_CR150_DSII_104413-ASI.jpg (89 KiB) Viewed 1336 times
Not a lot of activity but it was great to get out and spend some time trying to capture the smaller features.

Questions and comments are always welcome,
Brian

Great images Brian. I see some horizontal lines crossing the discs is WL and CaK... or is it my monitor ?

Glad you had a good viewing session Brian and a great set of pics too, I enjoyed watching AR12729 on the limb as well (earlier on in the day 12UTC) it was full of very bright surge proms and a pleasure to watch.

Raf, Alexandra, and Mike...

Thanks for your comments and feedback...always appreciated :bow

Raf, I don't see anything out of the ordinary but the final work was done on my laptop so it may not be the best picture quality (brightness/contrast wise). Has anyone else noticed horizontal bands?
