High res images in 2 bands Aug 21 and 25, 12" aperture.

Post by Valery »

Hi all,

Here are four images I took last summer during tests of new 305mm (312mm outside diameter) DERF filters.

Filters were tested in a front of my C14 telescope.

First three images were taken in Ha and at 393nm continuum (10nm bandwidth).

The fourth image was taken August 25 in Ha.

Thanks for looking.

Valery Deryuzhin.

Yes, it was burn out by me with a "curves" tool in the PS CS6. ;)

Otherwise we will not see such a dynamic range for "surface" details.

Thanks guys!

I published these images (far not all my best) as the illustration of what can be achieved with alternatives to dedicated overpriced solar telescopes and filters.

There ever going to be any smaller ERFs you make commercially Valery? 4"? 6"?

140mm and 155mm were made. Two 155mm readily available for immediate purchase.

I published these images (far not all my best) as the illustration of what can be achieved with alternatives to dedicated overpriced solar telescopes and filters. These results were achieved without travelling to high altitudes locations, so, in average location conditions at 1.5m above ground and 55m above sea level in the center of 400000 city, with a total cost (telescope + all filters) of about $6000. And a telescope can be used for all types of night observings. If we go down to 8" aperture, then total cost will drop to $3000 - 3500 and the results still be much better than with 80-100mm overpriced dedicated telescopes and filters.

Valery
I agree your setup offers exceptional value for money. This year I will be going to a IMX174 chipped camera to get up to the 200fps level. I can get up to 110fps at the moment, so interested to see the difference in the faster frame rate. It's the seeing I struggle with so hopefully the extra fps will give better freeze factor!

Great HR images, I love the resolution of the second image. Which filter was used? 393nm?, do you sell these filters

This is just a 10nm 393nm filter by Edmund + filter #2 from PST CaK.

Baader K-line filter will do the same. The key factors here not a filter. They are:

1. Optical quality (from DERF to OTA and barlow)
2. Seeing. SSM may greatly help.
3. Very fast and low noise camera.

Your south location will provide many good seeing days, I beleive. Much more than here at my location.

Thanks, Robert. The thought is as simple as 2x2 - for high resolution you need a large aperture. :D

Pedro,

For HR work in the UV you need a well corrected telescope of a larger aperture. I think that 6" APO is barely acceptable for this task.

The most cost effective telescope for HR works accross available spectrum is a cheap second hand C11.
It is light and very compact.
