G1 Geomagnetic Storm Rumbles On

Post by Carbon60 »

Things are pretty quiet on the Sun, as we all know. No sunspots, or very little ones and certainly no flares, but there are still occasional geomagnetic storms, albeit G1 storms, so again very minor, but I'll take anything at the moment during solar minimum.

Here's my magnetometer plot over the past eleven days showing the start of a G1 storm on August 5th resulting from a coronal hole, and the continuing rumblings as Earth remains within the fast flowing wind stream.

Maybe more to come as there are more coronal holes and no doubt further fast flowing solar wind on the way.

Good record Stu. I saw a few reports on facebook and spaceweather about auroral activity in more northerly latitudes. Hoping for a nice big coronal hole for the end of October.

Nice to see some activity going on :hamster: at least clouds and rain don't interfere with this :)

Mark, you might be lucky if you count this round in 4 week intervals.

True, might catch it at the end of the week away on that basis. Fingers crossed! :)

Good luck, Mark. My fingers will be crossed for you. Maybe if you do see the aurora you could make a time lapse movie and I’ll provide the sound track using magnetometer data over the same period?
