Ha Full Disk & S6348 - 19th January
Super high pressure sat over the UK this weekend, in excess of 1044mb, has meant relatively clear skies in between the spells of transient fog patches, however by this afternoon the fog was gone and I was surprised how much higher the sun was in the sky compared to just a month ago, significantly fewer branches to pass through on the skyline and bigger windows of opportunity. In only a few weeks I think el-sol will have cleared my winter tree line.
I decided to go out and take a peek with the travelling kit, my trusty lunt50 etalon on a 60mm f6 scope, double stacked with the quark, camera was a GH3. Visually things were looking nice, with an emerging flux region which at the time of writing has been designated S6348, it's position on the disk suggesting cycle 25 possibly, there was a nice flame prom and dark filament towards the limb. Observing less than an hour before sunset the sun was low and the slow shimmer of bad seeing was making a strong appearance, but it seemed quite low frequency and the stacking software coped.

Happy to get this disk in solar drought season for me...
Hope you've all had a sunny weekend.

Nice looking disk there, Mark. Good to hear that you managed to get a session in; I can imagine that's not all that simple this time of year in the UK.

Thanks everyone, HMI image showing a pair of pores in that region of S6348. You guys further west of the UK should get to see this develop, hopefully designated an active region. (open in new window full size to see the pores).

Hi Mark,
Great shots. If one looks at the Magneotgram in SDO the polarity is according to cycle 25. negative / positive

Hi Mark: splendid full disk. We are having a bit of sun in between clouds, but I was able to see the active region well with the Lunt 50. I could not see the prominence.

Re: Ha Full Disk & S6348 - 19th January
Thanks everyone for the kind words, looks like there's a pair of pores still visible, and patch of plage in both Ha and CaK, but it's not developed any further than that.

Re: Ha Full Disk & S6348 - 19th January
After a week or more of clouds, smoke haze and rain ,which we are hoping has broken the drought in South East Queensland . It's good to see some great imaging. Thanks for sharing your images Mark.

Great discs, Mark. High pressure is visiting northern Italy too, 1040 hPa today but slightly hazy here.
