AR2757 January 26th, 2020

Post by ffellah »

Hello all: yesterday I saw that we were going to have intervals of sun this morning. I woke up with the crazy idea to try high resolution with the PST etalon while my other better filter is out until end of February. I was happy to see that AR2757 was visible in some detail, even if the seeing was definitely borderline for high resolution. I am glad I got some images, even if they are not what you can expect with good seeing.

Clear skies to all !

Franco

Thank you, Rainer. I processed this second image, that seems to have a bit more detail. Probably a moment of better seeing.

Seeing can indeed spoil the party from time to time. Still some pretty good looking captures there, Franco.

Hi Alexandra: thank you for your WOW ! I used the PST etalon on the 203mm HaT solar scope at F/27.5. Marty: thank you for your comments. Yes, it is very nice to see a real sunspot with light bridge and all. Hope we get more, now that Cycle 25 has supposedly started.

Hi Franco,
Nice set-up. Second image is a big improvement!
Why do you choose to use the PST etalon in a Telecentric beam? You could choose to use it with the collimating lenses, the Celestron is f/10.
CS! Bart.

Hi Bart: thank you for your feedback. According to Airylab you can use the PST etalon in this configuration: you remove it from the scope, take out the lenses and insert it after the telecentric. I use this etalon while my primary Solar Spectrum filter is back in CA for repair, as something happened to one coating and there was major loss of contrast. How is everything going with you ?

This is the last image, processed differently in ImPPG and Photoshop. The light bridge is much more visible.

Hi Franco, looking at your images it works! I used the PST etalon with the lenses straight on my 7 inch Intes. AOK made an adapter to mount it directly to the back of the telescope. A PST etalon at f/27 is maybe a bit less narrow than in the original configuration with the lenses at f/10. Christian has written a lot about it.
It is going fine here, thanks for asking! Waiting for the sun to climb higher. My H-alpha train looks quite a bit like yours, after finding a secondhand SolarSpectrum:
Baader TZ3 - SolarSpectrum 0.5 - 0,4× telecompressor - camera. I can mount a PST etalon right after the SolarSpectrum to achieve a doublestack. In that configuration the PST etalon is used without the lenses. No first light yet, waiting for a TriBand Erf Valery is making.
CS! Bart.
