The Sun in Ca-K - 30th May 2020
Been a while since I posted here, so I thought I would pop back and say "Hi". Hope you are all doing well. I took a bit of an enforced a break from solar over the winter as I loose the Sun from mid-November until mid Feb (due to trees) and then other things just got in the way! I'm back to imaging consistently now and have a Quark on order for some H alpha fun in a couple of weeks when it arrives.
Lots to see in Ca-K today, a new plage area rounded the limb overnight and there are a collection of new proms associated with it. The plage area that rounded the limb a couple of days back is still going strong and has a nice prom associated too. The off-going limb still has a lot of nice proms which are associated with the plage area that recently departed the Earth-facing hemisphere.
So first up my 6 pane pano full disks. All shot with the ASI178MM @ native 1000mm of the Skywatcher Evostar 120. Stacked in AS!3, sharpened in ImPPG, stitched in Autostitch and finished in GIMP 2.10. I've made some changes to my processing workflow to include some tone curve manipulation in ImPPG and tweaked Autostitch to export full size panorama rather than limiting to roughly 2000x2000px.
Then the proms, lots of them All of these were shot binned 2x2 to help with contrast
Last one shot with a 1.5x barlow added

Great processing of those proms, they are really crisp.

Re: The Sun in Ca-K - 30th May 2020
Thanks. Despite all that ImPPG can do (and it is brilliant) I still find that a last round of unsharp mask in GIMP + a touch of Gaussian blur gives me the best overall detail levels.

Very nice, David.
You managed to capture those CaK proms quite nicely.
