18/09/2020 Visual Report

Post by AndiesHandyHandies »

Hi

Lugged the 127mm F7.5 Triplet Meade out today.
2" 35nm ERF stopped down to 28.5mm with Blue Lightning M48 to filter thread adaptor and a short 1.25" extender as a filter baffle.
1.25" 2x ES Tele-extender. I made a new front baffle with a plastic Celestron/Sywatcher Moon filter as holder and a 25mm penny washer drilled out to 10mm and coutersunk. Roughly. Gun blued the steel and Black3ed.
Put one of my cheap Chinese filters with glass removed to give 20mm baffle on the front of the Prom Quark.
And the same on the 25mm Fujiyama Ortho. Gun blued and Black3ed the focal plane sector, cunningly sloped back to back with the adjustable focal plane stop, holding it against a stack of rubber washers, which RodAstro made for me. Not visible now.

Started with the 32mm Meade SP.
02.30 BST

10.30 Rounded pyramid pointing slightly down. Hollowish. A bright triangle point down to the left. A little jet below leaning up.
02.30 Thin fine little jet pointing up.
03.35 Tiny Jet
05.00 and 05.10 tiny jets.

Moved to 25mm Fujiyama Ortho. Background slightly darker as field matched for 1800mm so close to 1900mm as here.
02.45 BST

10.30 Now looked like a clipped round top tree with a little prom below.
09.00 Tiny thin prom with a bright top.
03.00 Faint jet pointing up.

Tried the 3x Revelation ED barlow later with 8mm stop in front but high magnification and wobbly over town.
Just glimsed the one decent prom.

Some development progress but not much to view.

Cheers. Andrew.

I also have the Meade 127 Apo-Triplet and as you say about lugging it, reminds me of when I used to use a hoist from the observatory-roof into position on the Vixen or later Skywatcher mount, rather than struggle from a step-ladder...
Excellent instrument, but I'll keep that now for Planetary and Deep Sky use...

Interesting build report for that scope.

Terry
