WEATHER WEB-LINKS FOR ASTRONOMERS

Hi People,
For those of you who don't use the following web-link programs to see or even forecast what your weather is doing and especially for actually seeing what cloud is occurring OR APPROACHING in your own areas, to allow you to take advantage of known clear-spells.

These three programs, have been used by me for many years, to prevent me from flying into bad-weather conditions and in fact I have never even had to divert over those years, thus being able to enjoy nice/clear-weather conditions en-routes. (Actually that is not entirely true, as during a flight from the London area to Exeter[Devon] in a largish-aircraft
[D.H.104 Devon C2 type], we did encounter some very wet and cloudy weather-conditions which forced us to divert to Bournemouth[Dorset]. I did not do the required Pre-Flight weather-forecast on that only occasion, but left it to another pilot. I never made that mistook ! again)...

Although two of these links are showing the actual or weather forecast for the U.K. and Europe (primarily), the first web-link is world-wide, showing actual live-satellite-imagery 24/7/365, specifically for our-interests, showing cloud-covers and the movements in direction of clouds. Even thunderstorms can be shown (hitting the necessary buttons on screen)..

Thin-cloud layers and fog, can be detected by perhaps comparing with those very-dry areas over deserts - where clearly one can see the much darker land-masses - where obviously the drier-air would normally present the best "seeing conditions" for astronomers. Day or night images are shown as required.

No "Log-in" is required for these three links.

No accurate weather-forecast is ever-available for specifically the UK areas for more than five-days ahead/120-hours.

In fact the accuracy of any UK forecast reduces considerably from the "ANALYSIS CHART" at datum, down through to the "MSLP Prognosis T+120 CHART." Check all times for relevance as:- UTC/GMT...

Best to check that the times shown maybe GMT/UTC and which may include your local times too.

I use these three every-day and at least whilst in the observatory, I can easily see when it is time to observe or pack-up.

Pedro, I have previously used sat24.com and I know other pilots who swear by it as is sourced from the same as "Eldorado County Weather" website.

https://www.rain-alarm.com/ is something I'll look into Alexandra - thanks.

James, https://www.windy.com/ is one on my "quick list" but mainly for when Hurricanes/Typhoons in our area or when my RAF colleague in Mauritius (in the Indian Ocean) tells me that one is approaching the island, so I monitor it as well.

Overall the three (in that order) are the ones that I prefer for S.E.England - as simply show all that is necessary for up-to-date/time astronomy seeing.
