Ha Full Disk 5th December

Post by marktownley »

Hi All,

Hope you are all good, Not as much time as I would like to spend here atm, i've been dipping in as much as possible. Got lucky today and was what a grotty forecast the day turned out quite nice with blue skies. I set up with the DS50 and enjoyed some nice views through the eyepiece. I knew with the near solstice sun I didn't have much time before it headed into the urban horizon and so went for a full disk. Using 2x2 binning hugely under samples what this setup is capable of, but with an easterly wind the seeing was rolling and so this undersampling made getting an decent image possible.

It's nice to be able to get some sun at this time of year, and I hope the Christmas period will give fine weather for observing.

Clear skies and sunshine!

Mark

Hi Mark,

Excellent discs. Still clouds in NHSA ...

Interesting is that nobody has asked what " NHSA " means

Very nice images Mr. Townley. I am glad you finally got to see the Sun. How much could you see visually? I still am surprised on how much I can actually see sometimes. While imaging is no doubt better the eye with training can do much better than many think.

Hi Everyone, thanks for the kind words. James, the view visually is very similar to the image, maybe the proms a bit brighter and the filaments darker at the eyepiece - I do little post processing to the raw data, pinch in levels and sharpen in ImPPG and colour in PS, that's about it.

Very good disks Mark.
How is the view through your Solarscope but single, not double stack? Do you think better than my Lunt 60 tilt?
Thanks
Joseph

Single stack and double stack present quite different views and both and both are nice IMHO. My end of year project is making a double stack visual setup for my SM90.
