A week ago... 3 AR in a row

Post by LeoD »

Hi
the Sun became quiet last few days and only this weekend I have time to process images on March 25 and 27 after a very busy week.
I made a mosaic of the last 3 AR's: 12812, 12811 12810 caught on 27/03, small proms and filaments, all with 130mm+Quark, FD with the Lunt CaK, downed to 100mm.
regards
Leo

Thank you all so much for looking!

Franco, although meteoblue gave 1.6" at 2pm, but I didn't beleive, my SSM only sometimes showed less than 2" between clouds.
Maybe there is another trusty source for a seeing forecast.
My setup 130f7+Quark+174mm is about critical sampling, thus very sensitive to the seeing. I tried to take maximum from the given conditions and was a bit lucky. But definitely wasn't a day for Ca, turbulence killed all closeups.

Thank you, Leo for the seeing explanation. The more I look at the first Ha and the last two, the more I think they are pretty stunning. You also have excellent processing there, as the fine details really stand out. I would like to know more about your 130mm scope and the Quark you used. Is it a regular Quark chromosphere ? It looks very narrow.

Hi Franco, I don't think I'm original in processing: AS3 stacking, AstraImage deconvolution, PS with Nik plugins for final adjustments. I don't like to combine 2 exposures of proms and chromosphere, trying to work out a single frame. To find the best stack from imaging session with more difficult prom+limb+chromosphere scenes I apply Photomatix presets to sharpened AS3 stacks. You can see better where is less stacking artifacts, more crisp proms, spicules on the limb and optimal dynamisc range to select for further processing, with or without HDR and tone mapping.
My scope is TS-Optics PHOTOLINE 130 mm f/7 FPL53 Triplet APO with quite good 2.5" R&P focuser from teleskop-express.de. They didn't provided me with the lens diagram so I don't know how it's corrected at 393nm. Sure it's not similar to TOA, but I beleive an triplet objective should be acceptable for Ca. The Quark Chromo version I simply ordered from Daystar. Yes, it looks narrow, but with significant non-uniformities fortunately at sides of FOV. I pretty much got rid of it by camera rotation.
sorry if this is too brief, your're welcome to go in details
regards

Leo
