Oxydized

Post by rsfoto »

Hi,

This is my second oxydized BF30 from Coronado.

¿ Is there a way to avoid this oxydizing ?

Glue a Ha or UV/IR filter in front of it ? but looking at the transmission curve I made from the Coronado ERF UV/IR is already blocked ...

BTW, my newest BF 30 is by far not that red when looking at the Sun through it as the one showed in the image ¿?

Thanks for any tips.

regards Rainer

desiccant caps have kept all 12 of my BFs rust free for years. If you leave it out in he telescope with no protection it rusts.

It is hard to tell if luck or planning keeps BFs safe. I keep mine open in a 50% humidity place. I have not had problems. However, I have never seen a green blocking filter!

THank you Stephen and Colin

The BF 30 is permanently mount on the scope and the scope when not in use is under the roof of the Observatory.

Here where my Obervatory is I have during 80% of the time less then 40% humidity ¿?

The green colour of the oxid is probably due to the cheap camera I used. It has a nice Orange colour when looked at.

The B600 also can have issues. Check this out.

I'm not happy...

I have heard nothing but bad from people buying used solar scopes.

Hi Stephen,

I do not understand that as all my equipment is purchsed new. First I bought a DS60 and 2 BF30 from Coronado and then already 2 BF30 from Meade/Coronado ...

I'm hoping the seller will come good with something, I am talking to Lunt as apparently this was a known problem with the coating failing on early B600 filters.
I'm hoping I will get a resolution.

I really want to purchase a B1200 anyway, so I am just hoping the rest of the scope works okay...
