Annular Eclipse -- Comfort, TX -- October 14, 2023

Post by SJohnson »

Hello everyone!! My daughter and I plus our friends, the Page family, had a wonderful time in Texas for the annular eclipse. We traveled about 2,500 miles (4,023 km) round trip to see this eclipse. When we woke up there wasn't a cloud in the sky, but as we drove the hour from our rental house to the city we picked to set up in (Comfort, TX) clouds started to slowly build. There was enough cloud cover by our setup time that I was having a hard time getting the SkyWatcher SolarQuest to find the sun, but all of a sudden about 30 minutes before first contact they all went away!! We had about 150 - 250 people come look at the eclipse in Hydrogen Alpha. Everyone had solar glasses already but before leaving Georgia I gave a lot of the ones I had out to friends and family where they ended up with a really hard time seeing due to the cloud cover.

The bird shot was one of 13 frames that I need to work on more, but it was a super cool accident!

I really enjoy this forum and all of the wonderful people on it so I want to add a plug here to support the fall fundraiser if you can and haven't already at paypal.me/cbsap

A wonderful set of images through the entire event. You were lucky with the weather.
