Full Disc 13-03-2024

Post by rsfoto »

Hi,

Had some early Sun and here they are.

Image

Image

and below if I remember well somebody asked how does my Birthday present, a Player-One Saturn-M SQR camera with an ACS, behave in H-alpha, was it you Alexandra? below you can see the answer.

I would say as good as my reliable very Old Lumenera Infinity 2-2M with CCD chip. The only missing thing is a software with the capability of applying a false colour mask in real time viewing as well as when saving the files. So far I can say there might be something in the oven for the future from a well known camera, hopefully

The image was taken at 900mm focal length with a Takahashi Baby-Q native focal length is 450mm using a Canon 2X extender. This is a single full disc video, no mosaic and I am astonished how well the illumination of the whole disc surface is. No flats, nothing for flattening the surface.

Processing was the same as with my Mosaic videos but this time in 16 bit*.ser not AVI and the result is a 313 pixel increase,16%, in diameter of the Sun at a resolution of 0.8617" / px

... and for those who like direct comparisons I have to say I like more the Saturn result then my old mosaic technique. I took both images and cut off the limb and reduced the size of the Saturn to be the same as the Lumenera

Brilliant thanks Rainer, I'd go with the Saturn. Been there with the mosaics, a big chip camera is so much easier.

Hi Mark,

Camera technology has evolved immensely since I started with the Sun and DSO imaging and yes. The Saturn is a nice camera so far but for H-alpha without False Colour Mask feature as I have now it is difficult for me to switch over in H-alpha to a Saturn at the moment.

Let us see what happens.

Can you apply the false colour mask in Firecapture Rainer? What are you using it for?

Hi Mark,

If you look at the H-alpha mosaic image that is where I apply a False colour mask in real time as well as during acquisition of the *.AVI video. The software is called Lucam recorder but the author stopped developping it about 12-13 years ago and did not implement it in the 16bit version.

That is why I have no jagged edges between the prominences and the neutral grey background which is normally black,

My neutral grey background is not a result of any image processing software.

Rainer,
I am a lazy ass and always go for easy so I would certainly use the larger chipped Saturn. Work smarter not harder I say...

I would agree with the majority, go with larger sensor.
Full disk at once, if anything it captures the full disk at the same seeing conditions every time.

Hi,

IMX 533, well, yes and no.

Yes as I get a full disc in one single shot and ...

No as I loose the abilioty to brighten up the black Background for getting in one shot the prominences unless ...

Somebody teaches me to get the same effect using a software process...

Thanks

It was me Rainer, I have inspected both images and I would say you have finer detail on the disc with the Saturn M, very nice! :bow :hamster:

Hi Alexandra,

I knew it was you who asked that is why I put  but, yes still a big but. Unless I get a software with the False colour mask I can make a change and if not, I will stay with the oldies but goldies...

I know I am an Old Stubborn Grumpy Man

BTW I exxagerated a bit with the wavelets and I see it Sandy...

Hi,

Adding to this 533 ans False colour mask below is an attempt to achieve what I get with the False colour mask using Photoshop, perhaps my skills are not good enough in Photoshop, on the Saturn-M cameras and personally I just do not like it and if you look at the False colour mask image you will see why.

Judge by yourself ;)
