Williams 102 mod?

Post by Robin »

In my quest to upgrade from my PST I have enquired as to buying a new Meade or Lunt and it has been suggested that I could mod a refractor -question, I have a Williams Megrez 102mm which I use for DSO imaging, would this be suitable for modification. I would not want it to be permanent but be able to remove filters and use for night imaging. I assume from studying the posts on the forum that I would need a BF and a ERF for this conversion. Can anyone tell me if this is a goer and what filters I would need to purchase and where to get them
Many Thanks, great Forum
Robin

Hi Robin

depending on the focal length there is more to do. Has it f/10 ?

Hi Robin

so you need a 25mm negativ lens with -145 mm FL to be put up front the PST mod

OK, easiest and cheapest way to mod with this scope:

Get a 75mm Baader D-ERF http://www.teleskop-express.de/shop/pro ... ation.html 255 Euros

Get a PST nosepice ~£25

You would then have a 70mm stage 1 PST mod for less than 300 quid.

To improve, go to stage 2, with a couple more adapters and a SCT focuser....

Hi Mark
Thanks, where could I obtain a PST nosepiece £25 Or I don't mind investing in a BF and would I need a filter holder to match the 102mm ?

Used like this in the picture you would not need another BF. I can machine you a filter cell holder for the D-ERF.

I could if you need me to - I assume to hold an ERF? It wouldn't have threads, but would be easy enough to engineer an interference fit...

Robin, a couple of comments...
1. Make sure you have enough space to get the PST etalon 200mm inside prime focus.
2. The PST etalon works at f10 (unless you change lenses on the assembly) which will result in an effective 70mm aperture.

Hi Robin

maybe I do not understand english very well, but you could consider next time, when you set up a help mod question, to narrow down the search field a little bit
