Vixen A80 screw on ERF cell

I never like the idea of bits falling off the telescope while viewing the sun,so I thought you may be interested in seeing this Vixen A80 cell.I started off with a Daystar 80mm ERF whose original cell was too large;so I cut down the Vixen dewshield and using bits of aluminium,managed to make this.



It screws on using the original Vixen fitting,and keeps the ERF secure.

Very impressive peice of kit! Screw on is definitely the way forward, these little nylon screws that some cells have to hold expensive bits of glass on always make me feel uneasy...

Pity you can't use it with your next "upgrade" -to the 150mm scope ;-)
(The filter looks very "orange" - Not sure what glass the Daystar crowd use - a red Schott?)

The Daystar ERF filters changed colour from red to yellow when they changed their manufacturing process from poured, to drawn glass,as they had quality control issues previously.At the same time they also altered the bandpass characteristics of the glass.

Thanks for pointing it out...I understand what they are saying, but IMHO the more of the "Non-Ha" spectrum you block with an ERF the better.

Very nice looking job. At least with Ha, if the filter does fall off, the instant damage is to the filter not the eye, as might be the case with a white light filter. A liitle more expensive though!
