Re: 9th Aug Sunspot movements

Thank you for your comments. Notice that there is a small sunspot between AR 3071 and 3074 in the third image. Some people regard these images as "white lights" but I do not. They are taken with a Baader narrow band filter centred around 540 nm. I also use a UV/IR cut filter that removes a...

Thanks everybody for your comments - this prom certainly provided interest and something to follow. Will be interesting to see what is visible when it moves across the sun's disc if it lasts that long. Cheers, John W.

Aug 3rd / 4th Solar activity

Two dates here ... Aug 3rd and 4th. Terrible atmospheric conditions (wind, rain and cloud), but I managed to get some images of the large prominence on the NE limb. The wavelengths are shown on the images which are all single exposures with a canon 550d camera. Thanks for viewing. IMG_3542aa c.jpg I...

Re: new calcium filter: I get almost nothing visually, but great for imaging

Thanks - do you see enough of the CaK detail visually to focus on ? Our eyes loose sensitivity to Ca K (UV) wavelengths as we get older so not uncommon. Cheers, John W.

24th July Sunspots come and go.

July 24th. Those sunspots come and go. Two images here - first on 20th July and the second on 24th July. Both single exposures with Canon 550d at 540 nm. You can see the movement and changes in shape of the sunspots over these 4 days. Small sunspots but interesting to watch. Both taken on cloudy day...

Re: 19th July Solar images

Thank you fellow Solarchaters. Its winter downunder at the moment and weather conditons have not been good so to get any sun images is hard work.
At least there are some interesting features to monitor.

19th July (SE Australia). I managed three pics today at 2 different wavelengths (540 nm and Ha). Conditions were average. Each pic is a single exposure with a Canon 550d camera. Its been interesting to follow the progress of these small sunspots across the sun's disc. Thanks for viewing. John W. IMG...

18th July Sunspots

The weather was cold (10*C) and cloudy again today 18th July. I managed a gap in the clouds for a quick snap of the sunspots. I have included a pic from 14th July as well to compare the movement over this 4 day period. Both single exposures with canon 550d, herschel wedge and WO 81 mm scope. AR 3055...

14th July ... I just wondering if it is possible to keep posted topics in order of receipt. I continually get frustrated by old topics getting lifted above recent topics because somebody has made a comment. I found a topic I posted last night was way below my older topics. You have really got to go ...

12th july Large sunspot

12th July (SE Australia) I had to wait till mid afternoon to get a small patch of blue sky. I managed one single exposure image with my Canon 550d camera. I measured the large sunspot group AR 3055 to be about 150,000 km long. Thanks for viewing.
