Re: PST no visual change when focusing

Tuning the etalon moves the filter centerline wavelength to compensate for the refractive index of the air in your locale at different air pressures. It will not change the color. It may change the brightness a bit. If you saw something on youtube that changed color, it was because they were trying ...

Re: Removal of lunt erf double stack possible?

Welcome to the group! Whenever you add a second etalon to a hydrogen alpha scope, you reduce the brightness by 40% as you narrow the passband of the scope.
While the ERf may be removed, it won’t make any noticeable difference.

Re: Finally a good Quark

I love the design and the innovation of these quarks. I had one in magnesium, one in CaH, one in sodium and two in hydrogen alpha but I could never get any of them to really show a decent view. I still have a camera Quark that I really want to work hut it never shows much except a red solid ball. I ...

Re: I have the setup in the photograph

That all looks set up correctly to me. Of course, as others have said there are no features of significance to view on the sun and you would never see granulation in the Sun’s chromosphere, only in the photosphere with white light. I’ve only used a quark a few times but to be honest I have never got...

Re: Which new scope

I have a little different take on that. I would say if you were going to be imaging the sun and CaK or H-alpha with the scope, there is no need for a triplet and in my experience a much less expensive doublet performs identically since there is only one wavelength of light to focus. Of course, if yo...
