Re: Sunday Sunshine - Seeing and Sampling June 26th
Hi Mark, A scientific approach wins the day. This is a really nice demonstration of the balance to be struck between some important factors determining the ability to resolve detail. My approach is to try to set up each of my scope/Barlow/camera (pixel size) combinations to operate under ‘critical s...

Re: FDs in Ha and CaK 25th June 2022
Hi Mark, I think it’s the position/angle of the internal Omega filter. My guess is the higher focal ratio makes the setup more sensitive to angular misalignment if the filters are not exactly normal to the light cone. The Omega is only held in place with PTFE tape on the threads to make it fit. Some...

FDs in Ha and CaK 25th June 2022
Just a couple of disks from this morning. I stopped down my 125 Tecnosky to 60 mm following a discussion with Mark for the B1800 Lunt CaK module. I had to remove the internal Omega filter from the B1800 module because the image was really unevenly illuminated. A bit more experimentation required to ...

Re: Huge filament at solar limb and AR13038 in Ha (RCT)
Hi Stu, Very nice images with your 150mm DS cannon! I believe you already have reached the limits of a 6" aperture. I also believe that this is a good reason to go further with more persistence and use and use and use your main caliber - the 10" RC! Earlier or later you will reach the lim...

Huge filament at solar limb and AR13038 in Ha (RCT)
I thought I'd give the 250mm RCT a run this morning. As is almost always the case, the seeing conditions were barely good enough. I also imaged using my 150mm refractor. AR13038 was my main target, but I noticed the awesome filament close to the limb, projecting off the limb into the darkness of spa...

Re: Binning, Sag and System Synergy With a Solstice Sun 21st June
Interesting results from your experiments, Mark. Thanks for confirming the east/west viewing challenges that can occur in Ha with front mounted etalons. With clocking the main bodies and rotating the casing of mine (I use Bob’s compression tuning method on both front etalons) there is quite some ‘pl...
