Nice Proms 8/07/18

Some nice proms today, something coming around the eastern limb? https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1787/43232767812_1e9e1c0e4b_o.jpg fc2_save_2018-07-08-120451-0000_g3_ap65 by Brendan Martin , on Flickr https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1808/28412520517_9a18cd0b1c_o.jpg fc2_save_2018-07-08-120532-0000_g3_...

Re: Full discs with LS50 and TS80ED

Do you use a tilt adapter or do Newton rings not pose a problem for you, I cannot get a uniform disc in a single shot I have to do mosaics.I will have to try rotating the diagonal.

Re: Today's Sun 26/06/18

Single stack, had a chance on Sunday to double stack and wasn't impressed, my disc shots are not even across (due to tilting) but were worse double stacked although the filaments were much better.

Doing outreach I would go for the Lunt, waiting to come on band takes time with the quark, you are instantly observing with the Lunt.

Re: Televue or not.

I regularly use a 3x tele-extender and a 5x televue powermate and have no problems achieving focus through my Lunt 50 with my PGR camera, I have not tried visual with these as I use a Lunt zoom for visual. Hope this of some help.

Re: My first Scope and Problem!

Hi there, the lines are newton rings, it is a common problem with some easy fix's, you could try tilting the camera (my preferred method) or take flats, below is link to an excellent article for solar imaging.

G-Band filters

HI, I am thinking of having ago at g-band imaging and came across this https://www.thorlabs.com/thorproduct.cf ... r=FB430-10 at half the cost of the Edmund optics 430nm filter I wondered if it would be suitable, the spec seems the same but with that price difference it sows some doubt.

I was just looking at the 252 chip. It looks like a very tight fit for the Sun FOV at the LS80 native focal length.

I would like to hear if anybody has experience with newton's rings with this chip.
Newton rings are a problem with this chip but can be overcome, I use a "tilt adapter".

Re: Camera rec for Lunt 80

I was able to image through a friends 80mm single stack last month with a PG GS3-U3-32S4m, here are some images using a 3x tele-extender and a single shot full disc. I would point out that I am no expert and on the day the seeing was poor but if they are of any help. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4...

Re: Help -Newbie with a LS50THa -Pressure tuning

Hi Andi, I have the same scope, when you unscrew the knob you are reducing any pressure so you don't hear a hiss or pop, when you screw the knob in you are starting from a point of equal air pressure in the chamber and outside. You will also find you will have to screw the knob in quite a way to tun...
