The Sun in the clear skies of Montreal this morning

Lunt LS60T with camera ASI183MM, stack of 300 images at 4 milliseconds exposure each, then Autostakkert/Astrosurface/Photoshop. Sky was contrasty enough to have prominences processed with disk (no need to process them separately). Have a great Saturday! Daniel 09_17_39_lapl5_ap4931_conv astrosurface...

Your recommendation for an eyepice for public solar viewing?

Hello everyone, Hope that you are all doing well. I have recently acquired a very portable solar H alpha kit (Lunt 60mm DS/Takahashi Teegul-SP/carbon fiber tripod) to do public viewing. It was very popular during an Astrofest in Montreal yesterday! I was wondering if people have had the chance to co...

One trick that I use to calibrate mine is to "carefully" shine a laser pointer on the slit as a reference: the red ones are around 650 nm and the green ones are about 532 nm.

Re: Ha Quantum filter PE 0.4Å

Hi Rainer, I use FirecCapture with an ASI1600MM on the Sun as well. I suggest that you reduce the gain to 0 and adjust the exposure for a good histogram. Increasing the gain above zero gradually ads grainy noise to the picture. Looks like sometimes you have good details like on Vimeo 284516502, but ...

Re: what level settings for false color cal k-line

Hi Chris,

If you are asking about the settings to colorize a monochrome image in CaK, here is what I use in Photoshop CS2: Adjustments/Color Balance, then I set Cyan to -75, Magenta to -100 and blue to +25. Example attached.

I hope that this helps.
