Hi Kevin, The blue Astronomik filter has a diameter of 50 mm. It is used as a sub-aperture ERF : http://astrosurf.com/viladrich/astro/instrument/intrumentCaK/Montage-CaK-Barr-Alluxa-Astronomik.jpg Because the Alluxa 0.1 nm is transparent to UV, green, red and IR, it requires the use of a complementa...

Re: Pst collimator lens
Has anyone ever tried to make this change? If you mean has anyone tried a "naked" PST etalon in a telecentric beam, the answer is yes, a number of people have done this. For example, I tested an excellent PST etalon on a C8 EdgeHD at f/28. Its FWHM was about 0.34 A at f/115 and 0.9 A at f...

Sure, you can use a PST etalon in telecentric beam. But as it is an air-spaced etalon, you need a larger f-ratio. Here is the effective FWHM of mica-spaced etalon according to the f-ratio : http://astrosurf.com/viladrich/astro/instrument/solar/Julia-FWHMres-f-ratio-15-50-mica-spaced.jpg f/28 to 32 i...

Hi Denis, Just wondering whether your could try a respaced 150 mm refractor, just like Alfred did. This would significantly increase the resolution of your Ca K images. The 850 nm is very interesting since it shows plages accross the solar disk, a bit as a very low contrast Ca II IR filter.
Well done !
It would be interesting to compare this 850 nm filter to a G-band filter or a 393-3 nm (if you have one of these filters).

The FD and the close-up images are great. The proms turn out very well !
I still have to do more tests to check if is better to take specific (longer) exposures for the proms, or not.
It could be that these current proms are very bright in Ca K.

I don't think a double stack BF will help. I've done some simulations to test the idea some times ago, but 1 nm is way too large. It makes no difference. Interesting. I would have thought a 5a design would be quite easy to do with filters alone. Given that the Quark Ca H is thermo-regulated, it is most probable that it is a mica-spaced etalon. On top of that the DayStar Quantum Ca K (or H) 2 A and 5 A filters are mica-spaced etalons. So the mica use...
