Re: The Big SHG from Down Under -- Maurice's 100mm f/9
The telescope focuser supports only the weight of the two diagonals. I would dare to say that in this construction the focuser has no weight to carry at all as the SHG is resting on top of the telescope. Of course a very precise position is necessary but on the other side the connection of both dia...

Re: The Big SHG from Down Under -- Maurice's 100mm f/9
Using 2 diagonals needs a lot of backfocus, did he shorten the telescope tube ? No shortening was required. Most of the telescopes I've used for SHG need a huge number of extensions in order to focus on a slit. A few notes on the construction. The telescope focuser supports only the weight of the t...

Hi, The smiley company just delivered the Telescope. What a beautiful and very well made scope. The Rack&Pinion focuser soft like butter but not as soft as a ride on my Land Rover SII 1961  Now I am well armed in any case ... Winchester_30-30_1894_2.jpg Winchester_30-30_1894_1.jpg SORRY ¡ W...

Re: Too much noise
Hi, Just a simple tip. Put Gain at 0 and then adjust your speed to get 95% on the live histogram and process these SER files ... Stretching the histogram too much gives you immediately noise ... Why do you insist in fast exposure time. IMHO in White light you will see no difference after stacking .....

Hi Chris,
Excellent. Do you have different disc sizes or do you move the disc in and out according to the Sun size.
Where is the disc exactly placed ?

Good job but I like the Sun images better in positive and not inverted.
IMHO Inverted images really do not show the details as positive ones.

Re: Cooler for ZWO cameras (phone cooler)
Hi Arne, Interesting but what are your highest temperatures in Norway. Martin_S gets very high temperature ambients in Australia and I get nowadays about 34°C when imaging (there have been too many clouds here lately). So I would say having a temperature sensor, I assume it is on the imging chip bec...

Re: New telescope ~400mm focal length for SHG
What ND filter do you think I will need in order to avoid the cracking of the standard Sol'Ex slit ? I use the Hoya pro ND16 with my 72ED and Sol'ex with no problems to the glass slit and the kit is pointing at the Sun for hours on end . The weaker versions I have read cause fringes, again no proble...

Hi Ross,
What was the exposure time for that test and where do you live?
Where can I find that phone cooler?

Re: New telescope ~400mm focal length for SHG
Hi Doug, Thanks. I will do the same test I made with my 60mm f/4 scope. Focus on the Sun and put a temperature sensor at the focus and see how high it goes. BTW, I bought a SVBONY SV503 70mm f/6 which was US $ 120.00 cheaper then the StarWatcher. I missed the offer the other day. The SkyWatcher was ...

OK, I will start with all 4 and taking off one by one until it cracks and so I will know which one not to useWhat ND filter do you think I will need in order to avoid the cracking of the standard Sol'Ex slit ?

and then order the slit from Doug ... aka the smiths ...

Re: Anyone know the history (and safety) of using obsidian to view the Sun?
I bought this obsidian plate at Teotihuacan after seeing the tour guide's demonstration of viewing the Sun through it. But I didn't do many viewings after realizing that solar rays may actually be damaging my retina without any sensation Hi Solarscout, I understand your concerns about viewing the S...

Re: Cooler for ZWO cameras (phone cooler)
On my cpu in the pc i also put a strong air cooler, never had condensation though. The rel. air humidity is not high enough under these conditions. Hi Dennis, That is correct because with just a fan you will never reach the so called Dew Point temperature (unless the ambient temperature reaches the...

Re: Cooler for ZWO cameras (phone cooler)
I would second this, what needs to be cool is the chip. The question is where is the temperature sensor located. On the chip? If so, then it seems you can get some degrees temp reduction compared to not actively cooling. Hi Dennis, Be aware of one thing and that is the humidity in the air. Cooling ...

I do not know but for sure it should have one. Perhaps a ASI 183MM owner can chime in.

Re: Cooler for ZWO cameras (phone cooler)
Hi, Martin_S and I have developed some coolers for the ZWO cameras. Merlin66 aka Ken Harrison also wanted to implement a cooler on his camera but I do not know if he already finished it. For those interested below some ideas I developed lately and working well. I am on the ASI 178MM only cooling the...

Re: Cooler for ZWO cameras (phone cooler)
Presumably a lower temperature housing will increase ZWO chip radiation to its immediate surroundings? The degree of temperature drop, of the chip itself, might still be rather modest. I would second this, what needs to be cool is the chip. The question is where is the temperature sensor located. O...

Hi Pedro, OK, you are setting the camera cooler to 10°C but that does not tell us yet what is the camera temperature. Connect it to SharpCap and it will report your camera temperature. SharpCap show my temperature o Player One 432mm but QHY 290mm dont show temperature....Do you know why dont show? ...
