Joe,

I enjoyed looking at all these images, but the CAK really grabbed my interest. Great job.

Re: Sunspot 1944 in white light

Eric, Thanks for your comment. I agree with you, but what was my intent with the colorized image really didn't come across due to a lack of explanation The single capture image, though it is of lesser quality, is exactly what is streamed live onto the web and it was included to show what one would s...

Re: Sunspot 1944 in white light

Thank you Ralph, Mark, Alexandra for your kind words. I'm sure if I was into post processing I would have more refined images. My joy comes in providing live images for broadcasting on Nightskiesnetwork.com (NSN) and also the for the fellowship that one finds there. All of you that do imaging can di...

Sunspot 1944 in white light

Finally some weekend sun and was blessed with this enormous sunspot grouping. As usual I share my solar imaging on 'Nightskiesnetwork.com by streaming what my camera is capturing. The equipment for this image was a Celestron 102GT mounted on a iOptron MiniTower Pro and the camera was a Mallincam SSI...

Recent sunspot locations ... coinicident or expected?

I was wondering whether it's a coincidence that for quite awhile most sunspots have been in the lower half of the sun or is there a physical reason for this?

Gabe,

The time lapse is great, I never know what you're going to show us next LOL I think we, among others, are really enjoying the QHY5l-II cameras. Keep those images coming.

Re: First Light PST+iOptron SmartEQ. Great little combo

I think your name is Andrew, Very nice image coming from the PST. iOptron makes some simple to use and great performing mounts. I have three of their mounts. Love the Mini Tower Pro for solar, nothing easier and tracks all day. As to the ASI120MM I believe it comes only as a color camera. Since you'...

Re: Imaging Cameras

Brian, At the moment I'm using a Lunt White Light Wedge on my 80mm ED 600mm scope. The full disc just barely makes it with the 687 chip. No camera that I've had so far will allow me to to do a full disc with my current setup. So I'm use to adding a focal reducer to acquire a full disc image and I ki...

Don,

Thanks for the info, it is very helpful. The 674 will have a wider field than the 687 using CCDCalc.

Could someone explain the performance difference between the ICX687 vs. ICX674. Especially in light of the new Grasshopper3 cameras that will be released shortly.

Jim,

I wondered how one would use a Star Analyzer for the Sun. Nice work.

By the way could you explain the difference between the two O2 Telluric on either side of the H2O Telluric.

Re: Need advice on White Light Imaging

Brian, thanks for the tips. I have tried my 10nm Ha instead of the continuum and get slightly more granulation detail and a darker image, but the detail isn't really that much sharper in the Penumbra. I'll try and apply all your suggestions the next time out.

Alexandra, Thank you for the reply. Seeing here is typically average to below average with an occasional average to above average, rare that we get good daytime seeing. Need advice on White Light Imaging

My issue is that I never get real sharp detailed images. I don't generally record but view the image on my laptop or broadcast it on NightSkiesNetwork.com. Am I expecting too much from individual frames? I've tried Registax and don't see much difference between individual frames and stacked frames f...
