Re: Various test results of popular telescopes

Mark.......... I get the same warning page - the BT version anyway - but when I click 'continue' it takes me to the page as shown in Merlin's post above with no pop-ups or other problems. I think the warning page is an ip 'filter' (I'm on BT Infinity) rather than an anti-virus one (I use Avast).

Re: A Quick Look in Calcium- 8th October

Great set of Calcium images Mark - you even managed to capture the surge prom :seesaw I didn't get the chance to use CaK before the gap closed but wondered if the rather large, active proms would show. Based on the short animation I did (and far better ones from other people), both proms were changi...

Great images as always Eric. Sounds as if you are having as much luck with the weather as we are here in the UK........... at least we don't have earth tremors to worry about. I was thinking of you when the reports came in of the devastation in Mexico City - hope everything is OK with you and your f...

Your experience matched mine exactly Stu..................... just a large enough gap in the grey grot to capture a few images

The gap closed before I could take a look in Calcium K or white light so... nice to see you managed at least 2 'lights' :seesaw

Re: A little 'spurt prom' as a goodbye from AS12683

Cheers Mark. It was 'touch and go' with a few missed captures. One of those 'right time, right place' events where the 20 minutes of intermittent sunshine coincided with the little surge prom doing its stuff. I'm still amazed how well the Lyra 152 with its full aperture ERF works in really pretty po...

A little 'spurt prom' as a goodbye from AS12683

Just a few hazy gaps in the overcast this morning but I managed to get about 20 minutes (with a few breaks). Re: Solar storm arrives as predicted

Thanks for the kind words guys. Eric; Stu (Carbon60) did all of the hard work designing and developing the magnetometer I use. If you are interested, the whole story of how it was built, tested and developed is told in the following SolarChat topic: https://solarchatforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=144...

Solar storm arrives as predicted

The usual depression after getting a Red Alert Arora warning on a wet and cloudy night    But satisfaction as the high speed solar wind produces a massive kick on my magnetometer: Solar Storm September 27th 2017.jpg Hopefully the image is easy to understand: Top part is the warning...

Re: A little cloud of high density plasma...

Thanks guys :bow2 Not a bad comparison Stu. Here's our data plus that from a range of UK stations for comparison: Magnetometer comparisons.jpg I'm very happy with my results now, other than the 'ramping up' from a low value at the start of the day. I often get similar effects - thought it was a temp...

A little cloud of high density plasma...

A small 'cloud' of high density plasma passed close to Earth at about 2100 ut on 22nd September: Radial Velocity.jpg I was interested to see how well my magnetometer would respond; especially as after having some serious issues, I had just finished giving it a 'service'. Fishing in tiny cracks between the clouds

Pretty dire conditions yesterday but managed a few minutes 'fishing in the hazy cracks between the clouds' in the afternoon. Seeing was appalling and even focussing the Tal 100 + Quark combo was a struggle. By using x2 binning I was able to capture enough data for a pretty grotty FD mosaic: Tal 100 ...

Re: Sun in CaK 17th Sept.

Good stuff Stu. I had very much the same experience yesterday with Ha being very difficult and CaK not much better! The Tal 100mm f10 has pretty much become my 'grab and hope' scope in these times of dire seeing. When combined with the Quark, it seems to cope with poor seeing far better than my Lunt...
