Re: 150mm refractor+Lunt50

Aleksey, do yo know how much "in focus" is required for the Lunt LS50Tha mod? This would be useful to know when doing this modification on a different scopes.

Re: Weekend Solar Activity

Thank you all for your kind words. Rainer, yes you are correct, I live in the land of the long white cloud but sometimes when we get a break in the cloud the viewing is spectacular. These images were taken with a Coronado SM60 fitted to a Takahashi FS-60C + module (F/10) + BF30 + Tele Vue Powermate ...

Weekend Solar Activity

From the number of posts it seems that a lot of members were looking at the sun this weekend. Here is my take of the sun with a nice flare from AR3021 and a filament spewing out of an active region. The Sun FD 23 May 2022

Active region AR2014 looks superb dominating the sun's surface. I used the Coronardo SM60 fitted to the Takahashi FS-60Q, BF30, 2x Powermate and ASI174MM camera to capture this 4 frame mosaic. I cropped one of the frames used in the mosaic showing AR3014 and processed it to obtain a little bit more ...

Active Region Complex 24/04/2022

Oh... what a treat is this active complex stretching across the Northern part of the sun's disc. Good atmospheric seeing has allowed me to get a sharp image of this complex presented here in inverse mono and colorized. Used the Takahashi FS-60Q, Coronado SM60, BF30, Tele Vue 2x Barlow and ZWO ASI174...

The Three Active Regions

After weeks of cloud today there was a small window of clear sky between the clouds. I was just able to get a few images of the sun before my window of opportunity closed. Images were taken with a Coronado SM60 fitted to a Takahashi FS-60Q, BF30, TeleVue 4x Barlow and captured with the ZWO ASI174MM ...

Re: Looking for WL tips

Hi Rainer,

It will be awesome, you'll get the full aperture resolution. I would use ND5 rather than ND3.8 as with my Mewlon 210 + 2x Barlow + Continuum filter + UV/IR + ASI174MM camera the image was quite bright, I was using 2-3ms exposures.

Re: Looking for WL tips

Hi Rainer, I try to keep the two filters far apart as if they are close together I got internal reflection of light bouncing between the filters. I have the 3ND filter in front of the scope and place the 2" Continuum filter at the end of an longish (80mm) adapter and then then camera with the s...

I think that this is the article on using the Continuum filter + UV/IR filter together.

Re: Looking for WL tips

I agree with Alexandra. I seem to recall that a test was run was done by someone many years that showed that the Continuum filter + UV increased the image contrast.

Re: Replacing the Rusted BF30 Filter

Hi Christian,

I agree with you, we need to find a cost effective solution but at present even if the Beloptik UV/IRcutKG3 filter lasts for 6 years as did my BF30 it is still at present the cheapest option.

Re: Replacing the Rusted BF30 Filter

My BF30 has been used on double stacked SM90 Etalons (having the ERFs on both Etalons) and has lasted for only 6 years. The "rust" in the ITF filter now covers about half of the filters diameter. So my option were; buy another BF30 at US$1600 which is expensive or send it back to Meade and...

Re: Replacing the Rusted BF30 Filter

Hi Rainer, I went with the UV/IRcutKG3 filter cut down to 34mm so it would be a easy "drop in" replacement into the BF30. Sorry to hear that the 12nm Ha filter did not thread into the BF30. An alternative would be to screw the filter into a short extension tube in front to the BF30. On ano...
