Hi Mark,

Good to hear that you have your problems now under control. It's been (in a few weeks time) two years since I place a 50% deposit at Alpine Astronomical for a Solar Spectrum SO-1.5 0.3A H-Alpha Filter. Hope that the production of your excellent filters goes well.

Desperately Seeking Sunlight

I'm getting to grips with the Antlia 5 angstrom CaK filter and how to process the images. The sun was low in the late afternoon when a gap in the clouds opened up. The sun was only 15 degrees above the horizon and I would get the occasional silhouette of a branch from the neighbor's tree on the capt...

Re: Two New Toys

I'm happy with the results. The issue that I'm having is only when using Antlia's Barlow lenses, it could just be me as I said this is my first time imaging in CaK. I do not get the over exposed edge using other Barlow lenses. All-in-all I'm happy with the results that I'm getting. As well as Antlia...

Re: Two New Toys

Hi James,

Here is Antila's price for the 5A filter. I also got their 3x and 5x Barlows but they tend to "flare" i.e overexpose the image on one side of the frame. So I use the 2x Tele Vue PowerMate with Antlia's 2" ERF.

Re: Two New Toys

Hi David,
Yes, the CaK filter is 5 angstrom, I have corrected my post.

I too have a Takahashi FS-102 and I'll do a color comparison. The TS-102 f/11 that I got was the SD version not the ED version so that I can use it on the planets as well.

That sound great Maurits. It would be interesting to see if 43mm does provide a 0.4x reduction in the focal length. Your images look very good with the tele-compressor.

Re: Solar Spectrum RG 0,4x Telecompressor 2".

I measured the focal length of the 0.4x Tele-compressor to be about 150mm so calculating its reduction was easy. I used 45mm distance from the tele-compressor to chip and found that the compression factor was 0.7x. I did a few more calculations below to get the relevant reductions. 150mm-45mm/150mm=...

Maurits, the ASI174mm camera is about 13.3mm across the diagonal, so theoretically you should have no vignetting.

I wonder what Baader response is since they recommend the 0.4x Tele compressor for solar Ha use.

Re: Solar Spectrum RG 0,4x Telecompressor 2".

Hi Maurits,

Which camera are you using? With the 0.4x Tele Compressor you will get 46mm x 0.4 = 18.4mm field of view without vignetting at the corners. With the Daystar 0.5x reducer assuming that it too has a clear aperture of 46mm then your unvignetted field of view should be 23mm.

Hi Rainer,

It will be awesome, you'll get the full aperture resolution. I would use ND5 rather than ND3.8 as with my Mewlon 210 + 2x Barlow + Continuum filter + UV/IR + ASI174MM camera the image was quite bright, I was using 2-3ms exposures.
