Re: Prominences 9SEPT2018

Thank you very much Franco.
This little scope has been very good to me.
I only wish I could find a decently priced 60mm etalon for it.

Prominences 9SEPT2018

Played around today and shot a few 1 minute videos of the sun. I used a Lunt pressure tuned solar scope mounted on a celestron CGEM tracking mount. Images were captured with a celestron 236M mono CMOS video camera set at 8 gain and 60 frames per second. I stacked 20 percent of 2300 frames using Auto...

Re: Solar transit composite photo tutorial?

Thank you Paul for the suggestion.
The Celestron Capture software iCap only saves as AVI and I have had the best captures with this software. Perhaps I need to learn the sniggy details of FireCapture or AstroCap.
I did download the SerPlayer software for future endeavors.

Re: Solar transit composite photo tutorial?

Thank you very much Alexandra.
I was pleased with my image of the sun but the ISS looks a bit odd. I think it may have been atmospheric distortion due to high winds at the surface and aloft.
I am still quite pleased with the results.

Re: ISS Transit August 7

I’ve managed to capture 3 solar and 1 lunar transit in the past year.
Your zoomed in shot is really nice.
Was it the clouds that caused your hiccup or just an anomaly?
I think it adds character to the image.
Nicely done.

Re: ISS transit on July 30 2018

Thank you Derek,
I posted a composite that I created from the link that was posted in my post asking for an easy tutorial.
I really like the results for a first time effort.

Solar transit composite photo tutorial?

Has anyone put together a quick and easy tutorial for making composites of transits?
If so, where would one find them?
Thanks in advance.

Re: ISS transit on July 30 2018

Thank you very much Brian.
It's funny how much work we do to get a 1 second clip of images and the time it takes to process into what we want.
Now if I can find a tutorial on making the 30 singles into a single shot.

Re: ISS transit on July 30 2018

Thank you Stu, I used a program called transit finder that lets me decide how far I am willing to travel to be on center line. It then does the searching for me based on my location and lets me plan before hand if I can make it there. This one I only had to travel about 3 miles to get. I have anothe...

Awwww thank you Alexandra.
I have pulled the singles out and now need to find the directions for turning them into a single shot with the ISS going across.
I keep pushing for bigger and better.

ISS transit on July 30 2018

I wanted to shoot this transit with my Lunt 60mm and get the ISS and the really nice bands of prominences along the rim. This is a single shot extracted from a one second video using a Celestron 236M CMOS and pulling the shot using Microsoft Movie Maker. It was nice to watch the entire transit inste...

Thank you Alexandra. I am also fighting clouds and rain but not to the extent as you are. I was able to setup and look but not much else yesterday and today I am socked in with clouds. I am hoping that they clear by the weekend for the start of the International Balloon Fiesta here in Albuquerque. 9...

Sunspot AR2683 2OCT2017 JSM

I finally had clear skies after quite a bit of fall gloom. I was finally able to image using a new to me used Celestron CGEM Mount and my Lunt 60mm scope. I imaged at 1024 X 768 for 90 seconds at 140 frames per second. The mount performed flawlessly giving me greater that 50% of my frames in the 75%...
