Re: IMPPG histogram
Hi, do you mean - just the histogram (which is displayed in the background of the tone curve window), or the whole tone curve window? Could you post a screenshot? Keep in mind that the histogram is calculated just for the selected processing area. E.g., if you select a piece of dark sky beside the s...

Re: white light images taken on May 27 and 28 with the Mewlon 250 / OIII and G-band
Fantastic shots. I really need to try my 250 mm Newtonian this season, even if it's with ND 5 and some wider filter. The Mewlon 250 is not the instrument that one thinks of spontaneously for solar observation. Another example that comes to mind is Tal 250K ( sample WL shot by Dzmitry ), a Klevtsov-C...

Hold on to and keep good care of it, because no one knows when ND 3.8 in sizes >20 cm is coming back, if ever.

Re: How does sunlight reduce myopia (near sightedness)?
I personally believe that the children were mainly helped by being outside and not staring at monitors and mobile phones, which are the main cause of poor eyesight. I can't find the link now, but I read an article which indicated that computer/phone use doesn't seem to matter. IIRC, they compared m...

Thank you, everyone. I'm guessing "Chief" = Schiefspiegler, tilted-component no-obstruction telescope? F/9 probably means an additional lens corrector, is that right?

Hi-res WL animation of AR 3315
The seeing yesterday was not too great for 180 mm aperture, but I recorded >200 videos and got some good stacks, and even a usable animation. Taken with Intes M715 with Blackfly S (IMX 273) camera, Baader ND 3.8 solar film + Solar Continuum (10 nm) filter, stacked in AS!3 and processed with ImPPG. f...

Solarchat doesn't support embedding MP4 videos directly, you can only provide a link. On Stargazerslounge you can attach a video to a message and it will show in a player. On Cloudy Nights you can upload MP4s to your Photo Gallery and link to them in a post (the user is then redirected to the galler...

That's a spectacular catch. Sorry, I can't get good image quality in Mp4 with my software. I've just converted your 120 MB GIF to a 14 MB MP4 video with the free tool FFMPEG using these parameters: ffmpeg -r 15 -i 2023-05-27-12h08mn4--TU.gif -vf "crop=1416:1088:0:0" -vcodec h264 -pix_fmt y...

First session in 2023, minor flaring only
On Monday I left my setup recording for 6 hours, hoping for the forecast possible X-class flare, but to no avail. Among the few lesser flares there was an interesting "unfurling" one (30 s intervals, 1:20 h total): https://cdn.astrobin.com/images/1530/2023/3542e8d6-788f-4aee-825c-999082a6f...

Re: Have you tried new smart imaging telescopes like Stellina or Unistellar eVscope?
Good point about educational institutions - I agree it would make sense for them, without having the teacher or student(s) having to become expert(s) in amateur HW&SW. On the other hand, there's the question of long-term support (do those scopes all run on bespoke hardware interfaces and softwar...

Re: Is it possible for there to be portable H-Alpha solar binoculars?
George, How did it work as a binocular? As I understand, this configuration works only as a monocular. But then there's the question: what's the most compact binocular H-alpha setup we could think of, using the components currently in circulation? Maybe something like: take the (discontinued) LS35 ...

Re: Have you tried new smart imaging telescopes like Stellina or Unistellar eVscope?
I'm of a similar opinion to pupak, and don't see much of a market for this. Most beginners start with simple 'scopes to dip their toes into the waters and see if they're into astro at all. Most advanced amateurs assemble their setups themselves (going through many iterations/variants over the years)...

What a great-looking telescope. And I envy you the workshop
Your photos gave me some ideas on how to improve my own single-truss 12" Newt (which I should finally get around to doing this year).

Re: Solar guider anyone?
I'm a proponent of guiding through your main camera - works great for me (see this post ), also for multi-hour time lapses. Since SharpCap doesn't do too well for you, have you tried FireCapture? As for issues due to passing clouds, it seems to me they will affect all guiding approaches to some exte...

Re: ImPPG version 1.9.1-beta
I've just downloaded it and it ran fine, libcfitsio-3.dll is present in imppg-win64.zip. Can you try downloading again, unpacking to a fresh directory and running from there? On another note: did you copy "imppg.exe" somewhere else (and renamed it "imppg 1.9.exe"?) It has to stay...

Re: binning yes or no
Hey, that's why I wrote "can"
Of course, the IO speed of the camera (how they implemented the readout & transport) also matters. From your example, [email protected] fps is just 92 MB/s. My older Chameleon 3 went up to 71 MB/s (USB 3), but my Blackfly S (also USB 3) goes up to 335 MB/s.

Re: binning yes or no
Just as reminder, binning CMOS does not change the fps, since binning is done after analog/digital conversion It won't increase the FPS by saving the time on AD conversion, but it definitely can due to 4x less amount of data to transfer (if the camera without binning is reaching its interface's max...
