Re: FireCapture versus Sharpcap?

1) my FPS was almost double when I switched to FC compared to Sharpcap 3.2. I was using a ASI120mm-S camera. Then you were not using the same settings in both programs. Probably high-speed setting There can be speed differences but not in that way. Always was able to get max fps announced for that ...

Re: ImageJ to remove Newton rings

Hi,

Think there is some filters for Photoshop with FFT.

Anyway it works with Gimp.

See this document I attached to an old solarchat post about Newton Rings:

Hi,

it's in the window that shows the image.
There is a green box Scaling (FITS/SER)
There is an "auto" tick box.

Yes Rainer. 2, 3 and 4x times binning. ZWO also mentions hardware binning for some modes possible, but no idea how that would work on CMOS. Rgrds, Paul edit: of course the "normal" binning happens somewhere in software. It's not like real pixel binning in CCD's. How the hardware binning cl...

James, My main desktop machine is a Linux Ubuntu 20.01 (with Mate Deskop). It used to run W10, but I moved that to a VM on the Linux machine. (Since I paid for a license, I still use it sometimes, mostly for testing software that needs to be platform independen. For Solar Work I still have a separat...

Re: Looking for a new imx 174 Camera

For Solar I always(with some exceptions) use my ASI178 in 16bit mode and 14bit ADC. On that camera (if your USB is good) there is no speed difference between 16 and 8 bit. (There is if you change to high-speed with 10bit ADC, but you loose dynamic range)

Re: Siril

Siril is mainly for deep-sky stacking and processing and does a very good job for that. (Much better than DeepSkyStacker) The interface not always very intiutive, but the result are very good. The version on Ubuntu repos is "old". For the latest and much better one could add this ppa: http...

Re: Looking for a new imx 174 Camera

According to ZWO, the 12bit full frame rate is 128fps and 164 in 10bit. In Firecapture, I only have a checkbox for 16bit on/off To get the highest speed and use the 10bit ADC you have to set the tick mark in 'High-Speed'. Without the tickmark, the ZWO cams operate in the highest bit-depth of the AD...

Re: Gamma not working on camera

Firecapture needs to be 'opened as administrator' then any settings you change in FC will be saved for the next time you open it. Do you have a little button to click next to the gamma setting? Alexandra Alexancra, that only happens because you have installed FireCapture in the Programs (Programs X...

Looked at the video on their page on how to use it. Particulary enjoyed the part where the guy is saying to "trash this Quark, our customers will never get such a bad one" . Maybe he should come and look at mine, which now serves as excellent paper weight.

Re: Deciding which capture frames to keep

Hello David, Maybe you could try to match the SSM log file (either from Airylab or my software) to the frames from FireCapture. Best would be in that case to capture in SER format, where every frame will have a good timestamp. Difficulty will be to match it with the "sorted" frames in AS!3...

Alexandra, what I understand from this: images which are on a "non-secure" website (http) wil not be shown when linked in a page. The website containing the image must be https (an therefore have a certificate to prove it is the correct one) Maybe a bit exagerated in this case, but I can s...

Re: I think I caught the ISS (or a flea on my objective)

According to the info from Calsky in your previous post, the ISS is 30" in diameter. (size can vary a lot, but 30" is not that small) Did the calculation right for an ASI174 but my figures seemed to large .... Anyway 30" is in between the size of Mars and Jupiter, so should be clearly...

Hello Franco,

I use SER player: https://sites.google.com/site/astropipp/ser-player

Works very well, and allows to extracr individual images and other processing.

You can use also PIPP to do some extractions, qualiity sort and lots more.
