Re: Imaging the Inner Corona in the Red Line of FeX (6374.51 Angstroms) by Jim Daley, Springfield Telescope Makers

Yes, Jim started getting some images about a week before that. But high altitude pollen, dust, etc has been causing a lot of scatter, from what he says. Once we're into cold temps in the fall here in New England that's expected to be less of an issue. I'm waiting for an opportunity to get some of th...

Imaging the Inner Corona in the Red Line of FeX (6374.51 Angstroms) by Jim Daley, Springfield Telescope Makers

[Note from Matt Considine: Jim Daley has asked me to pass along the following, with the attached being a screen capture of the type of images he is getting.] "An image of an FeX coronal feature is shown in this note. It was obtained with a homemade Lyot coronagraph mounted in my backyard roll-o...

Hi John,
Sorry for the late reply. I used a ZWO ASI 174.

Stellafane SHS - early imaging result

Hi, For those interested, I attach here an animated GIF that is the output of the software being used in the Sol-Ex project to construct solar disc images from spectrohelioscope/graph slit images. It begins about 2A on the infrared side of h-alpha and finishes about 2A on the violet side and progres...

Re: SHG (spectroheliography) software v3: batch pixel shift processing feature added

Fwiw, i have updated my version of thelondonsmiths code to include Avi support: Http://GitHub.com/mattconsidine/solex_ser_recon_avi There is also a highly experimental version with support for 8bit SER and 8bif AVI files, along with the ability to specify a bandwidth average (similar to Wah's SLiM)....

Re: SHG (spectroheliography) software v2 update available now

Just an FYI to anyone else playing with this code. My very early, tentative, highly experimental effort at putting the video reading and the video displaying into separate threads suggests that there is a significant uptick in performance to be had by having a threaded version of this software. I su...

Re: AVI support in SolEx SHG EN

Hi, Yup, I goofed on my URLs. The one from which I posted the pull request is https://github.com/mattconsidine/Solex_ser_recon_AVI The 65000 is just a maximum value to which pixel values can be scaled for 16bit data. I switched it 65535, since that won't present any issue. I got the sense in reading...

Re: SHG (spectroheliography) software v2 update available now

Achh... Apologies for that. The new link should be https://github.com/mattconsidine/Solex_ser_recon_AVI This is the branch to my fork of thesmiths version. Yes, the other github link should also have the same code and to work. But the one posted here will actually let you review/accept/deny the prop...

Re: SHG (spectroheliography) software v2 update available now

Okay, I figured this out. I think. For whatever reason, my prior forking of Vdesnoux's code prevented me from forking thelondonsmith's version. The solution? Create another github login. So that has been done, the project forked, and I have submitted a commit reflecting the suggestions for AVI suppo...

Re: SHG (spectroheliography) software v2 update available now

I've got to figure this out. When I try to fork other repositories, it seems to set up fine. When I try to look at yours the "Issues" button doesn't show up and when I hit "fork" I just end up with a version of Vdesnoux's. I'll keep poking at it ...

Re: SHG (spectroheliography) software v2 update available now

As noted in a post that I just made (erroneously) to the Spectroscopy forum, I have a version of this code which also supports AVI files. It may be found here for testing: https://github.com/mattconsidine/Solex_ser_recon_AVI There is also a tweak to the generation of the prom image which I have adde...

AVI support in SolEx SHG EN

Hi, For the daring, I have posted a version of Solex_ser_recon_EN which includes AVI support, as well as a tweaked version of the prom images. It can be found on github here: https://github.com/mattconsidine/Solex_ser_recon_AVI @thesmiths : for reasons I don't understand I am not able to properly &q...

Re: New SHG (spectroheliography) software available now for testing

The code that I posted on github has now been fixed to deal with the remaining AVI issue. (Turns out I missed some hardcoded values, which work nicely for 16bit data but not-so-nicely for 8bit data).

Re: New SHG (spectroheliography) software available now for testing

FWIW, I'll be putting the finishing touches on a version of Valerie's code that also handles AVI files. The quality of the result is not great, given the lower bit depth. But I've put the initial code up on github in the event anyone wants to get a taste of the output. One caveat is that it runs int...

Re: New SHG (spectroheliography) software available now for testing

Hi, Thanks for the spreadsheet. On your other question, I think the AVI spec only handles 8-bit and not 16-bit, which is why I suspect ZWO offers both formats, but only SER if you want to save 16-bit. I'll try to get a pull request set up in a few hours for an improved prom image, rather than the cu...

Re: New SHG (spectroheliography) software available now for testing

Hi, Thanks for the reply. Yes, I've seen the prom output but believe it can be improved. I'll post a pull request for the code tomorrow. The circle/ellipse fitting can be better, but I'll hold off on that since Valerie's seems to be working on it. I am working with a non-SolEx instrument, fwiw. And a...

An example of taking the output, cutting out the disk and rebalancing the image to get at the proms, which would otherwise be underexposed.

Re: New SHG (spectroheliography) software available now for testing

Hi, Thanks for the updates on this code. I've got an ellipse fitting routine in R that was doing the calcs for me for input into ISIS. I could send that, but if Valerie is working on ellipse fitting already that may not make sense. Do you have the settings file from the ZWO run that you could post f...

Rubber piston dimensions??

Hi, I've searched the forum and google and come up empty handed on this. What I'm trying to find the dimensions of the rubber piston inside the Lunt pressure tuners? I'm trying to figure out how doable it is to make a manual adjustment of pressure (using the automotive "pistol grip" unit m...

Re: Camera Options for Lunt LS80 DS

Coincidentally, I recently finished some measurements of Barlows for a Lunt 60 + ASI 174mm combo. Off of eBay/Amazon I bought an inexpensive 2x cell (svbony), a 2x Bushnell adapter (from which the cell could be unscrewed), a variable projection eyepiece adapter, and a 3x Barlow cell. All are in 1.25...
