Quark's BF on Lunt diagonal
Daystar's bf is about twice the size of Lunt's in my BF600 diagonal, I briefly swapped them. The picture is awful, with Quark's bf in place of Lunt's little red glass. Double limb and barely any h-alpha details visible. What's strange, is that in Quark bf placed with the mirror side forward, in Bf60...

Guys, resurrecting the old thread .. I did some mods to my lunt 50, a few years back: https://solarchatforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=22934&p=208244#p208244 On of them is pairing it to a 80mm F7.5 refractor. Now, I have a dead daystar quark, to experiment with. Pulled out the telecentric barl...

Hey guys! If you are looking for a cheaper Lunt50 focuser upgrade, here's my solution. The total cost of the project, around $200, but that depends on the cnc milling cost in your area. Typically, I pay around $10-15 for an adapter. Pre Diamond Baader Steeltrack 2'' focuser, was purchased from a fam...

Set my lunt onto the mount, focused onto the Sun with 20mm eyepiece. Unscrewed the ethalon with the diagonal and eyepiece from the scope. Put the refractor, with the focuser removed, onto the mount instead. Held the ethalon in the hands and tried to get the Sun in focus. Thought I nailed it pretty a...

Got this Chineese 80mm refractor from Aliexpress, which apparently has good optics, but the rest is so so.. It's much darker, compared to DS-ing my Lunt50 scope with the Quark (using a celestron diagonal, instead of Lunt), using the same magnification.

Re: Need a full disc HA sidekick (PST/Quark/??)
My Quarks barlow was easy to remove, without damaging anything. You can screw on the Powermate 2x, instead and upgrade the blocking filter to 25mm from Andover . The native bf filter is Andover's 12.5mm. As for the F/30 focal ratio, it's probably overrated, Daystar claims similar performance from 15...

My observation on Quark with Lunt BF600 diagonal
I have tried using the Lunt's BF600 diagonal on my 80mm f/7.5 refractor, Today. Unscrewed the Quark's bf filter from the barlow module, not to have 2 bf filters in row. Good news, the contrast of the chromosphere has improved a lot, much closer image to DS. Bad news, the image is a lot darker. The p...

Re: Quark Chromosphere + Lunt's BF 600
Quarks telecentric assembly unscrews along with the blocking filter, so, if I use the Powermate 4x, that will eleminate Quark's blocking filter as well. The plan is to use Lunt's diagonal, with the Quark inserted in to the eyepiecepart of it. I will also need some sort of 2'' to 1.25'' adapter, sinc...

Quark Chromosphere + Lunt's BF 600
Hey guys, I'm currently searching for the solution to my Quark's rusted barlow, to be used on my Lunt 50 with BF600 diagonal One of the options, is getting x4 Powermate, which supposedly simply screws onto the Quark, once it's native filter/telecentric part is removed. Re: Lunt50+Daystar Quark as doublestack?
Thank you.
25mm filter sounds tempting, but, I'm strictly visual and don't do imaging, so not sure, if it is worth spending extra on it, or is it?
Can Quark's own BF filter be reused with the x4 Powermate, if so, will it require an adapter?

Re: Quark > Optical Design > Detail available?
Hi Alex, I had to replace the Quark telecentric with the 2" 4xPowerMate after the small negative lens broke (probably due to a too much tight retaining ring). If you unscrew the telecentric from the Quark body, you can screw the PowerMate to the 2" nose-piece thread, which is identical to...

Re: To Double stack, or not to Double stack
I doublestacked my Lunt 50 with the Daystar Quark, the difference in chromosphere details is phenomenal. It's not only about the contrast improvement, but the image becomes a lot more 3 dimensional. Sadly, the barlow of my Quark happened to be "dirty" and I get a lot of dust on the image, ...

Mechanical pump of some sort, is probaly a better solution after all.
No need for the power, no noise.
Just need to find a portable one of a good precision and not overly expensive

Re: Lunt PT mod- vibration dampening
Can certainly be done. Lunt doesn't need that much pressure, there was info posted somewhere, around (if I remember correctly) 20psi all it needs. A bottle of coke has more pressure than that. There's a thread, where someone modifies an etalon to a vacuum tuned, but, an expensive precision pump was ...

Re: Lunt50+Daystar Quark as doublestack?
Thanks man, I will think about ordering a 40mm piece as well.
Was under the impression, since F/5 has a smaller magnification factor, 32mm should work similar to 40mm on the slower refractors.
Have you tried stopping your scope down, to say 70-80mm, to get closer to the recommended F/30?

Is it easy to remove the 4.3x telecentric +blocking filter? I tried the Quark on my Lunt50 Today, but had to remove the Lunt's B600 Diagonal, since the Quark already has the blocking filter. Re: my little lunt60 mod
Barlow is 2x, I presume then?
Then, it looks like the 75x250 convex lens matches Lunt's 50 F/7 even closer (assuming the fact the same barlow is used in both).
Would be curious to know, if the 50's tube internal diameter is sufficient to be used with the 70mm objective.

I'm a bit confused here, Lunt 60 has native f/8.3 and the convex lens you used is f/ 3.3

Please, bear with me, my optical knowledge is pretty vague.

I will probably be purchasing a lunt ls50 shortly, so really curious, if this upgrade can also be applied. What lens size would be more appropriate, since, LS50 focal ratio is F/7, against 60's f/8.3
