Re: Newtonian vs SCT thermal handling with full aperture D-ERF
Was looking at your picture again, it seems to good to be really affected by tube-seeing. Maybe it has nothing to do with the heat itself. Pure mirror systems are the best for UV and IR imaging. SCT systems are not because of the corrector. The Baader Erf opens up above 1500nm, maybe that is also tr...

A D-Erf is a Dielectric Energy Reflection Filter. In my opinion both the Baader and the Aries Erf's are D-Erf's.

Marty uses an Aries Triband as a front Erf.
Did you try other filters as a secondary Erf? For example something like this:

Re: Newtonian vs SCT thermal handling with full aperture D-ERF
I agree. You can't compare these telescopes because of the difference in focal ratio. If you had a SCT that is f/6 and could compare it with the C8 the temperature would be a whole lot higher measured in the f/6 telescope. Besides that: secondary mirror is closer to focus than the secondary of the S...

Hi Franco, looking at your images it works! I used the PST etalon with the lenses straight on my 7 inch Intes. AOK made an adapter to mount it directly to the back of the telescope. A PST etalon at f/27 is maybe a bit less narrow than in the original configuration with the lenses at f/10. Christian ...

Hi Franco,
Nice set-up. Second image is a big improvement!
Why do you choose to use the PST etalon in a Telecentric beam? You could choose to use it with the collimating lenses, the Celestron is f/10.

If your telescope you are using it with has 16cm backfocus or more, why would you put the glasspath more to the front? Just mount it in the nosepiece of and right before the etalon.

When a telescope is f/8 you place the glasspath (mounted right before the etalon) at minus 160mm. More about this in this thread:

Rusted, I don't understand what you are building. It is far more simple. Place the Glasspath really close to the front lens of the etalon. In a f/10 telescope you would place the front lens of the etalon 200mm before the focus point. In a f/8 with a 1.25x Glasspath you place it 160 mm before the ori...

With a 6 inch f/8 and a 1.25x Glasspath you place fhe glasspath at minus 160mm. The front and backlens work at their best in a f/10 beam. Hence the importance of the glasspath or masking the front lens to 120mm.
