Re: new Hi-res photospheric telescope

Hi Laszlo Good to see that the scope is taking shape. I think it is definitely an interesting design having the chance to take control of different components of telescope seeing - an issue which is hard to overcome with current commercial SCTs. Christian's solar newton in commercial... Of course se...

Nice idea - reminds me about the Gryzbowski-Collimator http://www.astropictures.de/Kollimator.htm (sorry, in German).
I have one of those but rarely used in practice.

If one stripes the mirror there's not enough light for Halpha. It would be like having a Baader film in front of an Halpha scope.

Quick recovery, Petr! Outstanding imaging and Telescopes!

Light passes through both - 9000 and 12000 m - layers. Take the worst. That will be the 12000 m layer because that is where you have the Jetstream.

Re: Seeing & Jet Stream

You can check Jetstream using the 250mbar level, either at Meteoblue or here: https://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/isobaric/250hPa/ The position of the Jetstream is highly variable and sometimes changes within a few hours (at least here in central Europe). Jetstream does not mean that you don'...

Re: Using a 6-inch SCT (C6) for Solar Imaging

On a SCT, you must not use a Herschel wedge because the full heat concentrates on the secondary mirror and may also get into contact with the central light baffle at the main mirror, potentially causing damage. For broadband ("white light") a front mounted Baader film (ND =5 got visual, ND...

Dave, this looks like an aliasing artifact - if you downsample an image with regular structure to a smaller image size. I observe this when looking at zoomed images from 20Mpix files from my DSLR (I think also from my Qhy268c camera). If you look at your original images without zooming, do you see t...

Re: Incredible sun 10th July but cannot focus with 120mm Refractor!

Hello Magnus, I also agree that it probably is the amount of backfokus. With my Bresser 152/1200 I need 2.5 additional extensions (each 40mm if I remember correctly) to reach fokus: https://solarchatforum.com/download/file.php?mode=view&id=69775 With the diagonal it should be easier because it c...
