Some really good flare captures here. I got lucky last weekend with AR3011 rounding the limb and some fine seeing.

Thanks for the great comments all. I was rather surprised by the quality of the data given how close it was to sunset. I don't normally image that late in the day. Saturday Prom Animation

Hi All,
It's been a while for me. I captured this late Saturday afternoon out at one of our club's dark sky sites. Seeing looked pretty good so I gave the 5X a try and things worked out fairly well.

Re: LASCO 72 Hour Video Sun Grazer

I tend to agree on Jupiter. I suspect the apparent motion animation in SkySafari at that zoom level that close to the Sun is probably not accurate. Now we just need a 72 hour total eclipse so we can test that theory

Re: LASCO 72 Hour Video Sun Grazer

Just thought of something I hadn't before. I wonder if the apparent motion of Jupiter would be significantly different from the vantage point of SOHO than Earth. It is at L1 which by my limited understanding should not present a different apparent motion from our own vantage point.

Re: LASCO 72 Hour Video Sun Grazer

Hi Terry, Thanks for the reply. Before I posted I checked SkySafari and "played" the same timeline with all solar system objects visible. Jupiter is indeed in the neighborhood but its apparent motion is nothing like this object. It is awfully bright and the transit through the field is ver...

LASCO 72 Hour Video Sun Grazer

https://www.solarham.net/lasco.htm

Watch the past 72 hour video from LASCO C2 above. I’m not seeing anything that matches up to this bright object grazing our star on SkySafari. New comet?

It enters the LASCO C2 frame at 20210127 04:12 and exits at 20210131 10:00
