Re: Help! Lunt 80 arrived and I caught AP bug

I am glad you saw my criticism as constructive. The artefacts are an overall spottiness. Caused by over-sharpening the image in an attempt to bring out more detail. An unnatural, uniform texture applied to every part of the image. It remind me of old-fashioned newsprint. Newspaper images were built ...

Re: Help! Lunt 80 arrived and I caught AP bug

Your last image is pretty but very over-sharpened. Typical of Registax. Try using ImPPG instead. Aim for a far more natural appearance without all those uniform artefacts. This advice was given to me here and I value it as causing a major improvement in my own imaging. It hurts to be criticised when...

Re: D-ERF needed for a 120mm refractor (achromat) ?

At the risk of repeating myself: An internal D-ERF reflects a burning hot [completely unfiltered] light and heat cone back out from the face of the objective. This is even worse than the original light and heat cone formed by the larger objective. Because the objective refocuses the original light c...

Re: Focusing with SharpCap

I use SharpCap and my home made, electric FT focuser. It uses a so-called Skywatcher DC gearbox motor and belt drive to the fast motion knob. The motor support plate is clamped to the stainless steel band behind the focus knob. The belt allows slippage when manual control is needed to move the focus...

Re: Which Quark?

Balancing multiple instruments, on the same mounting is a trial, for side by side arrangements. It is best to weigh both complete instruments. Then space them from the saddle centre line to equalise their moments . [Mass x distance.] This worked for me when I was balancing my 7" f/12 and 6"...

Re: 1.08.2022 AR13068

This is from a PST? Amazing! Thanks. I am using a PST etalon in a 150mm f/10 refractor. The little PST etalon was never intended for this duty. Such modifications inevitably push the boundaries of what is theoretically possible. Albeit at a much lower price than a larger etalon. Larger Lunt etalons...

Re: 1.08.2022 AR13068

Thank you all for your kind words. :D :bow I am struggling with very uneven results from my PST etalon again. Cropping the final image increases the "enlargement." Which softens the results even more than the poor seeing manages on its own. In the past I was able to compensate by rotating ...

1.08.2022 AR13068

Soft and shaky seeing made focusing pure guesswork.
50/1000 frames stacked. Last capture before the trees swallowed my sun.
PST Etalon sweet spot woes meant heavy cropping.
Stop laughing! :D

Did you have enough storage capacity? SSD?
I have had similar problems with Autostakkert AS!3.
Even when it looks as if I have lots of space. 80GB!
I had to delete lots of videos just to make it work again.
