Re: Idea of a Cooling Aid assistance for cameras

Obsessive-compulsive attention to detail led to all sorts of weird spiders for Newtonian secondary mirrors. :? Re: Idea of a Cooling Aid assistance for cameras

I am always surprised at the crude "grill" the fan makers use to keep user's fingers out of the spinning blades. The flat metal bars must introduce lots of noise and turbulence. Turbulence could cause vibration. I know they want compactness and simplicity BUT... The airflow could be much i...

Your metal fabrication is always truly excellent. :bow I was going to build a similar skeletal [?] extension for my own set-up. Some nice images and animation Peter. Lovely situation by the water too. That must help your local seeing conditions. Re: sweet spot and f/d effect

Hi Rusted <snip> I'm not sure how much reduction you could obtain with a air spaced etalon system, probably just the 0.72. I would think the best place for a large Lunt etalon would be just before the camera after the collimated beam. Cheers Rod Thank you Rod. :bow Your last sentence really confuse...

Re: sweet spot and f/d effect

Thanks Rod. Not easy to find one in Europe it seems. Do you have any idea of the focal length of this "speed booster?" I have a lot of binoculars which could become donors for a suitable objective. If only for experimentation. Objectives are not designed for converging light. That doesn't ...

If the temperature control of the chip works, it is better not to add anything.
I wonder whether a long, flexible hose between the camera and the fan is the answer?

Re: Idea of a Cooling Aid assistance for cameras

Neat job Rainer. :bow Before everybody rushes off to try and duplicate your efforts: The secret to efficient suction is an enclosed system [manifold] between the surfaces to be cooled and the fan. Fans are very poor at sucking "open" air compared to blowing. You couldn't have a desk top &q...

Re: Sun 14.11. - maybe this year's last

My problem with the sun is purely local. The surrounding houses, trees and high horizon prevent me from seeing the sun most of the day. I practically don't have a clear view anymore. There are tree branches everywhere and they spoil the picture. The sun is constantly hazy, so a quality photo is alm...

Re: Sun 14.11. - maybe this year's last

48º N is hardly a northerly situation. Most of Germany, the UK and all of Scandinavia lie further north. That is not to say that local conditions may prevent Hi-res imaging. Pupak's often incredible images have been an inspiration to many of us. I hope to see many more images when conditions allow.

Re: sweet spot and f/d effect

Where the objective focal ratio is too slow [longer focus] then inserting a standard focal reducer in front of the etalon is impossible. A 2x focal reducer has a focal length of ~10cm or 4". Inserting such a powerful lens in front of the etalon makes it impossible to focus the system. It will f...
