New battery pack.

This is specifically for Mark Townley, I have asked this on my thread ‘maybe the wrong place’ but as yet no answer. Anyway I am thinking about buying the lithium battery you suggest but would I need extra cables from the ones supplied with the battery. I plant to power my mounts (Skywatcher qe3-2and...

Re: Maybe the wrong place

Mark I think I will buy the battery you suggest but I would like to know if I need any other cables than those that come with the battery. My scopes that I will power are an eq3-2 and an AVX as well as my Quark. Can you advise me please?

Maybe the wrong place

Hi all, I’m not sure this is the right place, please forgive me. My poor old legs just will not stand lifting and carrying the battery I have which is an 84ah leisure deep recycle type, what I am looking for is maybe a lithium battery (much lighter) but which one? I need to connect my Quark, so it m...

Re: Update on laptop and camera

Hi folks, after a bit of confusion regarding which link on the ptgrey download page and after contacting them I was able to identify the correct drivers, I have just tried my camera by pointing it at a distant object and there it was on my laptop screen, just got to try it on some Stars and the Sun.

Update on laptop and camera

Hi all thanks to everyone that commented on my previous post regarding updating my camera, well, I have my laptop in the shop now having an ssd fitted (250) and I ordered the Pointgrey IMX 174 camera with a suitable nose piece and power cable. You never know I may be able to post some pics that have...

Re: New camera but which one?

Hi all, it seems common sense has to reign, I recently bought a new 8gb laptop but sadly no usb3, oh well. I will have to save up a bit longer to buy another laptop and a new camera, but in the meantime try to get better with what I already have, but be warned sometime in the future I will splash ou...

Re: New camera but which one?

Hi everyone after yesterday’s success I really want to get a new camera and have whittled it down to two; ZWO 174 mm or Point Grey imx 174, there are a few hundred pounds difference in price but cannot decide which one please advise me. I know I could get a tilt adapter for my ZWO 120 but I really a...

Re: New camera but which one?

How can I thank you all enough, the skies are fairly clear so I setup and tried some of the things suggested here and I actually managed to get a slightly out of focus image but I have never seen Newton’s rings as bad. I tightened everything down just to make sure it was/is not due to lose fittings,...

Re: New camera but which one?

Thanks for all of your replies, today as the Sun is hiding behind cloud I setup my scope (Explore Scientific) and pointed it at a tree about a mile away just to test that the camera is seeing, I put my Powermate on to give me a similar distance from the camera sensor, probably not right but I needed...

Re: New camera but which one?

Hi Alexandra, thanks for the reply, the only filter I have when using the Quark is the one I put onto the front of the diagonal that is a Baader uv/ir cut filter. The camera I currently use is ZWO 120 mm. If I get another camera I.e. the ZWO 183, or another make would it give more detail than I am c...

Re: New camera but which one?

Cont; the real reason I am looking for a new camera is that since I purchased a Quark and put it on my Explore Scientific I cannot get anything on my laptop. I start off using an eyepiece and get the Sun in view, I then put the camera on (zwo120) but all I get is a black screen. It has been suggeste...

Re: New camera but which one?

Hi Bruce, the reason I am thinking of a new camera is that I understand that with the zwo120 it is harder to find the Sun but with a larger chip, hence the zwo183 it becomes easier. Since I purchased the Quark I have had untold trouble trying to get anything other than a black screen on my laptop. I...

New camera but which one?

Hi everyone I am thinking about upgrading my camera, it will go onto both my Lunt ha50 and ( not at the same time) my Explore Scientific ed80 apo (triplet) with a Quark (chromosphere) at the moment I have a DMK 21, zwo asi 120mm and 120c also an Altair gp8. I have been looking at the ZWO 183mm, don’...

Changing the f number or not.

Hi me again asking for advice. I have an Explore Scientific ed80 triplet which is, I believe f/6, and also a Daystar Quark which I think works well or better between f4 and f8. I am still playing with spacers Etc. as well as different cameras to get the best views I can. Been cloudy for days here in...

Different things.

Hi I have an Explore Scientific 80ed apo that I want to use one or the other of my ccd cameras but have not been able to achieve focus so during the daytime, when the Sun was behind my house, I played around with the amount of spacers I had on as well as using my Celestron Barlow and changing it wit...

Quark setup

Hi all I hope you are all ok. Since I received my Quark I have been trying to set it up I.e how many spacers for which camera (Altair Astro gap cam 8 and my zwo 120mm) but we have not had a clear enough sky. The best I have managed is that I get the Sun but not quite in focus, a squeeze one way or t...
