Re: Maksutoc-Cassegrain Suitability

Hi On Jupiter my 180mm Santel Is just a tad under a 6" F15 Zeiss Coude solar refractor for contrast. And the design has a colour free flat field. I use 1.25" UV-IR and CCD red and Baader 7nm as internal erf stack and nothing melts. For a PST Mod2 I put the collimator lens first on that erf...

Re: Quark Chromosphere Blockfilter Mod

Hi

Any etalon or dielectric filter will drift to longer on-band wavelength if heated. And vice-versa.

Re: Quark Chromosphere Blockfilter Mod

Hi In old posts people were removing the Quark blocker Andover filter, including ITF and red glass?, to get more light through when imaging. Not to be used for visual if no ITF and red glass. Removed this reference as not checked out, and the blocking filter should not be removed. Adding a 7nm would...

Re: Lunt 40 mod basics.

Hi Air spaced etalons are suitable for collimation set ups and mica spaced etalons for tele-centric set ups. Though I double stack a PST air spaced Etalon on a Combo Quark from tele-extended F20 up and it works. For F10 you need a pair of concave, to make a parallel beam (position encoded informatio...

Re: Looking down on a prominence when it is still called a Filament

Indeed its useful to us few observers to have a non-inverted one first for comparisons with our efforts.
And not over-streched, but 'natural' look.
Please.

Thanks. Andrew.

Hi Dennis, https://solarchatforum.com/download/file.php?id=53670 This Andover curve was taken at 23C. https://solarchatforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=31697 On CVs comparison graph you can see its peak is already higher than h-alpha by a bit. file:///C:/Users/User/Downloads/The%20effects%20of%20temperatur...

Re: Quark Chromosphere Blockfilter Mod

Hi

Sorry for confusion.

The front Andover filter just looks 'silver' because it reflects most of the white light on it when you look directly at it.

The ITF is actually a layer of silver metal coated with protective layers. For long IR blocking.

Cheers. Andrew.

Re: Quark Chromosphere Blockfilter Mod

Hi I thought the ITF and red glass combination went after the Andover silver filter? Also Daystar can order a batch of filters to be on band at a specified temperature. Do they do that? When people buy individual filters are Andover allowed to supply them set to the same temperature as Daystar order...

Re: Quark Chromosphere Blockfilter Mod

Hi Looking back a Marks post on my Quark etalon safety threads he says the blocker is the ( 10nm is )1nm Andover filter and then a Combination of a silver ITF I presume for long IR and a Red filter I presume for Etalon leakage at other wavelengths. There may be other components. Yesterday I had the ...

Re: Quark Chromosphere Blockfilter Mod

Hi How do you know there is a ITF in the Quark? And is there a 'Trim' filter to pick out the central comb? Do you have a diagram with each filters specification? ITFs are a silver layer protected by coatings to provide far IR blocking. Another solution is KG3 glass. The front 'blocker' on the quark ...

Re: Quark Chromosphere Blockfilter Mod

Hi

I would not remove bits of the Quark assembly for your own safety.

But if you removed the red filter the off band light coming through would swamp the CCD and reduce contrast, A lot I would think.

Re: Quark Chromosphere Blockfilter Mod

Hi Lost a reply. What I have gleaned. The safety all comes down to picking out a sliver of the light on offer. 1. Any ERF only reduces the heat load on the Quark, if done properly internal ones are cheaper and just as effective than a front ERF. You should put the first dielectric filter near the di...

Sunny! 90mm F6.7 new ERFs and DS PST

Hi I am now using 3 dielectric filters for an internal ERF setup. Baader UV-IR stacked with RED CCD filter 100nm both on 2" extensions. Far enough up to keep suns image within the glass of the filter. And a Baader 7nm, tilted, on the front of the diagonal. Temperatures: Where I have BBE its the...

Hi I was out with the 80mm F15 today and combo Chromo Quark with TZ2. At F30 the proms showed up nicely. At F60 2x ES TE DS with the PST Etalon the disk view was very much as your image. I have started to look for the Polar Crown and I could see the prominence but the filaments mostly escaped me. At...

Etalons leak higher energy colours and the red is needed to cut those out if the BF does not do it.

Hi

They are a good scope. I have the MN78 which was used on Sky at Night for a Venus transit.

I am interested in how you managed not to melt the secondary?

Did you use any ERF DERF externally or internally?
