Re: Why my Quark always refused to work...

Hi Raf, I mounted the 25mm andover in the cell from a real cheapie barlow lens (throwing the lens away) and then mounted that on a 2" to 1.25" filter adapter https://www.365astronomy.com/365Astronomy-2-to-1.25-Filter-Adapter.html I then replaced the 2" snout on the Quark with a slightly longer one ...

Re: I think I'm done modding..will I like the Quark?

How is the seeing in your location? With its 4.2x telecentric the Quark will give more high power views in a 6” scope. You may have to downsize to a 4-5”

Double stack with a Quark

I’m thinking of taking advantage of the Lunt sale and getting a 60 mm single stacked scope. Is it possible to double stack it with a Quark? If so will I need a blocking filter or is the Quarks bf okay?

Re: Creative Solutions to the Problem of LARGE (8"+) ERF Cells

Hi All I have a friend with a machine shop and he made me a custom cell for my C8 it fits like the dust cover. He actually has some extra material to make a few more if anyone is interested. This one is made of aircraft aluminum and solid. Tomorrow we are going to go over the design to lighten the w...

Re: June 6th Session

Very nice images! And a beautiful rainbow!! I have a noob question on your SSM. I just got one recently. Is it better to have a higher number for your seeing or a lower number? My thought was that you want 1 arc second seeing over 6 arc second, but when the number goes down the graphic turns to red ...

Lunt Calcium filter

Hi All I'm looking to add Calcium K line to my set up. I will be using it on a C-8 and a f/8, 6" refractor with an Aries Tri-band DERF. I will be imaging with an ASI174 or possibly an ASI290. Will I need to use the blocking filter with the Calcium filter and if so which one would you recommend? Of c...

Re: Different Ca-K options, differences?

I have the Quark ha chromosphere and like the way it works but not sure what to expect from calcium h as opposed to k. Will you be able to “see “ prominences, does it need a telecentric or is f ratio not critical? I will be using it with a tri-band derf on a 6” refractor and a 8” sct. Would I be bet...

Re: Different Ca-K options, differences?

Thanks for the warning! I realize you get what you pay for especially in this niche of astronomy. What are the most cost effective and reliable ways of Ca-K observing? Is the Quark worth getting or would most agree that the Lunt is a better choice or is there another option? Sorry for the noob quest...

Re: Different Ca-K options, differences?

Is anyone familiar with this filter? Will it show prominences? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Optical-Filter-Astronomy-393-37SC0-2-Ca-II-K-filter-1-25-Extremely-2Angstrom/312192287992?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D9c6e255992d440259c82ba2f5807a718%26pid%3...
