Re: Animation AR13363
Hello Pupak, Brilliant imaging and postprocessing. I was wondering: 1) what was your exposure time for these proms 2) did you do any histogram stretching to enhance the proms (and noise) or did you just leave it as the stacked and ? sharpened image. 3) How much did you sharpen the image/unsharp mask...

Re: 215 minute animation of eruptive prom AR3363 (gong)
Thanks Magnus! is this of the extended M class flare? :movie Alexandra Hi Alexandra, Yes, it was on the south western limb on 17th July yesterday. It was a huge eruption of plasma and there was M class flaring I believe. Unfortunately, it was cloudy/rain/windy where I was down South. At least we ar...

215 minute animation of eruptive prom AR3363 (gong)
Hi everyone, I saw the news on the eruptive prom of AR3633 yesterday, so I did a short animation from images obtained from gong.nso.edu. This is a short animation from 206 images from the El Teide observatory from 080022 to 113522 on 17th July 2023 (universal time). Processed in PIPP. Gain 1.5, gamm...

Re: July 4 Ha images taken with the Mewlon 250
Dear Christian,
May I know what mount did you use ?
I calculate 3.5 x 2500 mm focal lenght for the Mewlon and the answer is: 8750mm.
That is quite a high focal length !

Re: Animation 195minutes AR 3373 up n over uʍop ɹǝpun
Hello Peter,
Very detailed capture, excellent work!
How many images did you take over 195 minutes? (frames per video, interval between video), and what telescope did you use? It looks like a 102mm scope ? Am I right?
Did you capture in 8 bit or 16 bit?
Magnus

Re: Does stacking images help us?
First of all, what do we expect when we stack a series of images vs take a single image? We want: a sum image that is reduced of atmospherical distortions and has increased s/n + details on the whole image and not only in certain parts. This image will be more blurry then a single best image. I wou...

Re: Solar guiding using ordinary guide scope
I use Vidoxide , see this video for a short demo. Though I haven't created a Windows build yet (had some problems with the Spinnaker camera driver not working, unlike on Linux), in principle the program should work with any ASCOM-visible mount, and supports ZWO cameras as well. But since FireCaptur...

Re: Solar guiding using ordinary guide scope
Hi Clare and Peter, I would be grateful if you can post details (as much as you wish) on how you mounted the guidescope, as I have not seen it before). It looks like a M5 or M6 screw fits onto the main tube rings, and there is a small circular tube spacer which fits over the screw hole on the rings....

Re: Low noise high speed camera for halpha proms?
Thanks Christian,
I think I understand photon noise and read noise much better now.
I suppose I will have to choose how much gain to add to balance the increase in photon noise (..i.e. GAIN) vs signal against the background.

Filiprom on the Northeastern limb 7th July 2023
Hi solarchat members, I did manage some h-alpha after my power cables issue was resolved. Some problems with the video and tracking was partly solved in PIPP. Here is a prom near the edge. I managed to isolate the prom and process the rest of the disc to increase contrast. The image on top is the st...

Re: Low noise high speed camera for halpha proms?
Hi, I am using a gain of 279 for some ordinary limb+proms exposures, this seemed to give relatively low noise but an obvious increase in the luminance of the background proms area (which I can control using luminosity masks and levels/curves adjustment) fairly easily. Magnus Beware ;-) The dominant...

I imaged the new emerging sunspot AR3633 (visible from Mars!, as on spaceweather.com). I should have added the earth for comparison. Effective focal length 4200mm. Magnus 10_50_01_lapl...

Re: My collection of images from the American solar eclipse
Hi Alexandra,
Thanks so much for the Acuter Merlin. I checked with some retailers and this mount is no longer on sale, so I shall either go second hand or look for the equivalent. Probably one of the newer AZ mounts.
Really nice setup and incredible solar images Alexandra.

Re: Low noise high speed camera for halpha proms?
I wouldn't expect significant image quality differences between same-chipped cameras from different manufacturers. Though there might be some regarding how USB I/O is implemented, etc. For instance, when I'm recording with my FLIR (formerly Point Grey) Blackfly S to an external SSD, I can simultane...

Hi All, I have read varying opinions on the camera most suitable for solar imaging. I have a ZWO ASI174mm which is fine for discs, part discs.
