I do not own Sony Alpha cameras, but
have you tried connecting your camera to
a PC application like Astrophotography tool?
There would be timing issues as well.

I own Canon but am NOT preparing for the
US eclipse this April 2024.

May I know what mount did you use ?
I calculate 3.5 x 2500 mm focal lenght for the Mewlon and the answer is: 8750mm.

That is quite a high focal length !

How many images did you take over 195 minutes? (frames per video, interval between video), and what telescope did you use? It looks like a 102mm scope ? Am I right?

Hi Clare and Peter, I would be grateful if you can post details (as much as you wish) on how you mounted the guidescope, as I have not seen it before). It looks like a M5 or M6 screw fits onto the main tube rings, and there is a small circular tube spacer which fits over the screw hole on the rings....

I think I understand photon noise and read noise much better now.

I suppose I will have to choose how much gain to add to balance the increase in photon noise (..i.e. GAIN) vs signal against the background.

Thanks so much for the Acuter Merlin. I checked with some retailers and this mount is no longer on sale, so I shall either go second hand or look for the equivalent. Probably one of the newer AZ mounts.

No problems imaging proms, just getting the quality that Carbon60 is getting. And low noise and high contrast views of the ptoms.
I will work on my 90mm and 120mm refractors for the time being.

Hi Dennis, Mainly Quark chromosphere eyepiece with a 70mm F6 refractor. I also have a 90mm F10 refractor and 120mm F8.33 refractor. I have 2 inch ERF (uv-ir cut filter or 35nm H-alpha filter). Camera: ASI 174mm I get about 6 to 10 ms exposures for the limb. If I expose for proms only it gets noisier...

Hi,

I think I have got tuning of my Quark chromosphere eyepiece for disc details - usually at +2 setting on the quark dial.
I was wondering about imaging only the PROMs.

Is the setting different for this - dial setting is turned to what setting exactly ?

I have a 1 TB SSD (NVMe) on an old HP laptop and 16 GB RAM and it gets about 64 fps on a normal image size of a ASI 174mm I think in SharpCap.
