Re: Sun FD 6th Oct 2022 - GONG/NAFE process

Hi,
I agree it is designed for AIA.
I see a lot of noise so that needs more
attention.
Still I find it interesting and a quick type
of process.

Re: Sun FD 6th Oct 2022 - GONG/NAFE process

I like it Magnus but I am not familiar with the NAFE process… Franco Hi Franco, NAFE is a software analyser for SDO AIA images. It seems to work to an extent for H-alpha. AZAstroguy on youtube demonstrated it in a recent tutorial. You can download NAFE. It works on 16 bit .tiff files which are in R...

Sun FD 6th Oct 2022 - GONG/NAFE process

Hi All, As it has been cloudy and rainy for a few days, and the sun is getting lower in the sky, I just took an hour to try out NAFE on today's GONG image from Learmonth, Australia at 07:21 hours UT from gong.nso.edu. This is just a simple NAFE process, no sharpening or other processing (other than ...

Re: Indirect colourful sunlight after coming back

Hello H-alpha,

Any chance of some info about the Jupiter animation?
How many frames did you need for it altogether ?
What was the time interval between 1 frame and the next ? (1 minute or 2,3 minutes).

What frames per second did you run the animation ?

Many thanks.

Re: Corona from 24 September 2022

Is the corona harder to image than the Sun in H-alpha ?
A guide to this imaging sub speciality would be very helpful I think.

Are other solar imagers also interested ?

Thanks very much. I will point out that I learned how to do it from Klaus160. And Christian's book was helpful with its easy-to-use formulas for the optical design. (And we all owe Lyot.) Updated FD H-alpha Sept 14th 2022

Hi,
I used Microsoft ICE instead of autostitch. This seems to work better and gives a .tiff file.
I think the gradients and uneven illumination are much less now.

Thanks

Re: FD H-alpha Sept 14th 2022

Hello Cybermayberry, Yes you are right, my disc is not 100 percent even exposure. I think it is because there was change in the weather and clouds were moving in. Flat frames were hard to take as well. Oh well, maybe I will do better next time. Please have a look at the current SPOD, EricF with his ...

I think when I rotated the disc, the illumination was affected. I may have a look to see if I can apply an artificial flat frame to even the disc out.

Very good image capture and processing. Your solar scope and camera combination is very effective.

How will you deal with the sun getting low near horizon, cloudy, wind and high humidity?

Nic, do solarscope provide the front mounted D-ERF as well?

That should influence what scope to use.
