Re: Total solar eclipse 2024 April

Thanks Alexandra, I tried to reply earlier but there was an error and I could not send the post. I will try and do research on the sites and weather prospects/historical weather for the most suitable sites for total eclipse. Probably not Niagara Falls though ! I got an email from eclipse holidays (c...

Solar session 6th December 2022 ! H-alpha Quark

Hi All ! After weeks ? of cloud and grey and rain, the sun appeared with less humid air and little wind ! I set up my 70mm refractor with the aim of trying some quick eyepiece photographer with a phone camera. I wasted alot of time and could not focus at all throught the 40mm eyepiece. Anyhow, the w...

Re: Quick Full Disk 11/30/2022

Hello Warren! I notice you take a lot of solar images, including Full discs. May I ask how you keep the file storage manageable? Do you delete your video files after a set period, say immediately after you processed the video and are happy with it, or do you store them ? for how long 1 year ? 2 year...

Re: Coffee under the stars ?

Hi Alexandra,

Yes, it is a composite/blended two separate images. The milky was is a stack of about 9 files to create increased signal/noise image.

I'll try and drink coffee next time at a dark sky site and see if I can photograph it directly !

Coffee under the stars ?

Hi All,

Just an idea I had with all the bad weather. Having coffee under a dark sky. Here is a part of the Milky Way core I took in May 2018 in Mount Bromo area, Indonesia. Combine that with a coffee mug...

Hope you like it.

Hi Jochen,

What camera and lens? Was it all hand held or on a monopod or tripod?
Did you special noise software eg Topaz denoise AI or DXO Raw Prime …?

Super photos!

Someone tell NASA they are wasting money sending probes and satellites to Mars. Just outsource all the work to this man !

American total solar eclipse 2024!

Hi,

Is there a case to start a separate forum section to discuss/prepare for the next major total solar eclipse?

I was hoping for solutions to take automated solar images during totality and pre and post totality via computer.

Would Alexandra/Stephen/Mark be able to consider this please ?

Hello Peter, Thanks for your brilliant post and animation. I should add that I tend not to setup my solar when it is too hot as it can be too difficult to concentrate in very hot weather and I do not have solutions to protect equipment apart from a cardboard shade on the telescope tube. I can try yo...

Total solar eclipse 2024 April

Hi All, Any one planning to go the USA for the total eclipse in ? April or is it March 2024 ?? Did any of you guys go to the eclipse in 2017 apart from Alexandra ? Did you go on a tour or did you book your own, going to less expensive bed and breakfasts for accommodation ? I suppose there should be ...

Re: Idea of a Cooling Aid assistance for cameras

Hi Rainer, Apologies if I did not understand your device. Has it achieved 35 celsius or 35 Kelvin below the ambient air temperature? Is this the sensor temperature? How to use this when the ambient temp is 10 degrees, then your sensor will be minus 25 celsius. Will that cause cold damage and sensor ...

I was missing the very important step of aligning the camera sensor with mount movements, it's so much easier now thank you! I found out from a solar imager on stargazerslounge.co.uk that : 1) autostitch64 can be very effective 2) alternatively - Microsoft ICE 3) Photoshop has a photomerge function...

Beautiful sunny day, 17F/-8.3C but I set up anyway, got a full disk, tried an animation but the seeing was really rough and my BF heater just could not keep up with these temps. Next time I'll try plugging it in to use the auxiliary heater this thing is supposed to have as well! I did notice when I...

Very nice photos Alexandra.

Looks like you have quite a dark sky there ! Wow, you are very lucky in Cheshire !

Did you try a high dynamic range image of your landscapes/sunsets ? Or you can do luminosity masking and adjust levels and curves for the sky and background independently.
