Re: Lunar shots with new old C11

Thanks, Alexandra: a tec 140 refractor must cut nicely through the seeing. I thought about a refractor too, but first will try out the c11 more. So you put away the C9 ? Eager to se solar stuff with the C11. No, the triband c9 stays for solar work. I can use it on many days in the year and shows eno...

Lunar shots with new old C11

Some time ago i bought a used, 20 year old C11 Ultima because it had extreme good optics on the paper (Strehl ~97%). It was in a poor condition, little mold spots on all the optical components and the optical tube has seen better days, too. I cleaned the mirrors and Schmidt corrector and tried to ma...

Re: Help me choose new solar scope discussion, verified with a SSM!

Hi, the cottage measurements are really promising. If following measurements are similar then for imaging i would definitely go for a triband sct. But since you dont image maybe a refractor is the better solution. My bet would be on a 150mm achromat with d-erf on the front and a lunt ds mod on the b...

Hi Daniele, what do you mean with "OK f-wise"? With the resulting f/36 you should be in the sweet spot of field of view and effective filter narrowness. Since the Quark has only ~20mm clear aperture it will always be your #1 limitation. Therefore you can go for the tz3-s version which is m...

Yes, sometimes we have to raise the gain to keep exposures low enough. The loss of signal can be compensated by stacking more images, but one cannot undo the "smearing" of details when having exp. times too high. Maybe that will solve it for you.

You will see a bit more space around the solar disc with the larger BF. The main benefit is for imaging cameras. The BF 1200 can cover a 12mm chip diagonal and so on.

Yes once you successfully can use your larger scopes with astrosolar film you can think about investing in h-alpha equipment in/for that aperture size.
