15.6.2024: AR3709 and 3712 close up in H-alpha

Hi there,
todays weather was very dynamic, from rain early on to cloudbreaks with quite good seeing. So i used some cloud gaps to take some shots.
Interesting small vertical filaments above the AR3712 sunspots were to see.

Thx for looking and nice weekend to all.

Great close ups Stu, what software do you use for the mosaik? Hi Dennis, I use one that isn’t supported any longer by Microsoft. It’s called MSICE…..MS Image Composition Editor. It’s a pity, since it’s free and seems to do a good job. There is a Mosaic creator within PixInsight, but it’s overly com...

Alexandros: with this arrangement you can change the f-ratio by changing the distance of the barlow in front of the tz4s, this way + reducer - camera distance, you can find a personal optimum for contrast vs. size of field of view.

11.6.2024: AR3709 close up in H-alpha (update 13.6.24)

Hi, i did some field of view optimizations in the morning and this is the uncropped outcome. I think i will stick to this combination for some time, it gives enough contrast and a good fov. Interesting processing steps. It looks good, the question is always what one wants to achieve. If you want to image real chromosphere features like inverse granulation, just use the 0.5A filter. If you want to image photosphere granulation and features best to keep it more natural. If you just want ...

I’ve been encouraged enough with the views through the SkyRover Herschel wedge that I ordered a 1.25” Baader Solar Continuum filter to see if it makes a meaningful improvement in the resolution of fine details. If the filter is exactly on band in the Alluxa measurements this means with a light beam angle of incidence of 0°. Now if you use the filter with a telecentric there will be not that exact AOI, or? So a bit of blue shift might come with the real imaging train. Then you need temperature to get it on ...

I tried the Baader K-line Gen2, the Edmund Optics 394 / 10nm and the Antlia 393 / 3nm.
From the perspective of out of band blocking the Antlia clearly won. If you have a Baader Film or use a Herschel wedge there shouldnt be much difference between them.
