Re: June 12 2024 White Light Observations.

Alexandra, You are welcome. So far the seeing seems better here. I lived very close to the Blue Ridge Escarpment when I lived in Edneyville and it kept the air more mixed up. The escarpment is the sharp dropoff between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Piedmont Plateau. It is a 1000+ foot change in e...

Using a monitor to do visual does work but I still prefer an eyepiece for Ha and white light. CaK is another matter. I find the monitor absolutely necessary.

June 12 2024 White Light Observations.

Today's session was from 13:24 until 13:55 UTC. The skies were clear with above average seeing. The temperature was 74F ( 23.3C ). Observing!.JPG Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 35.5x and 50x. Alla, The Richview tilt tuner is effective but I have heard most put the Lunt pressure tuners above the tilt tuned systems but I have never owned a Lunt pressure tuned system to know by experience. I think the single stacked PST has a bandpass close to 1A. The SMII60 SS is 0.65A to 0.7A. A bit narro...

Alla,
I have a Coronado SMII60 and I am primarily a visual observer. It does quite well visually in single stack and of course even better in double stack. This might be a good choice for you if you can find a good one on sale.

Good luck with whatever scope you choose.

Alexandra, That what it is meant for, a family boat. For picnics and outings. Fishing too and just touring the lake. And the deck is big enough to set a scope up on but calm water and low power will be needed. You and Mark do not have a place big enough to set up a low power scope on the canal boats...
